Access: coming from Toulouse, the destination is the village of Croquié. Head south on the N20, pass Foix and as soon as you reach Mercus-Garrabet, turn left towards Croquié (D61). Once in Croquié, continue on the road to the left until you reach a dead end (a barrier blocks the road). You will arrive at a small car park.
(S/E) The start is easy; the path is wide and the climb is not too difficult, giving your body time to get used to the sticky snow and warm up a little!
(1) Shortly after passing a tiny waterfall on the left, turn left and head straight ahead at a sharp angle to reach the small path. The scenery begins to change. In the forest, the atmosphere is calm and peaceful.
(2) On the left of the path is a gariotte, a small stone hut used by shepherds (see photo). A few metres after this building, turn right.
Then pass a huge cistern on the left and begin the ascent into the forest. You will come to a beautiful clearing. Here you will find beautiful statues and a panoramic view of the Pyrenees.
(3) Leave the statues behind and follow the path towards the wooden barriers (there are rubbish bins to the right of these barriers). Take the path on the right towards L'Aynat (there is a signpost on the right of the path). From there, follow the contour line. The hike is more peaceful here. Admire the Pyrenees mountain range on the right throughout this section.
(4) Cut across by taking the path on the left to gain altitude more quickly.
(5) Continue straight ahead to the highest point of the hike, where you will find a small mountain chalet (altitude 1,344 m).
(6) Enjoy the superb scenery in good weather.
Retrace your steps to return to the starting point (S/E).
BE CAREFUL OF THE ICE, IT'S A LITTLE SLIPPERY =) ). Once you reach the summit, the atmosphere is amazing, and you feel great.
