By car, north of Tarascon, head towards Mercus on the D618. On leaving Bompas, turn right onto the D20, Route des Corniches, lined with beautiful Romanesque chapels. In Arnave, park your car in the village square near the plane trees and the fountain.
(S/E) From the village square, at an altitude of 570 m, cross the Arnave bridge and turn right immediately. On the track, if you look carefully, you will see the chapel on its promontory from the top of Saint-Paul. After about ten minutes, near the stream, the track begins to climb. Once you have passed the wide meadows of Miédevièle and the reservoir on your right, the track begins to climb more and more steeply. Leave it after a steep climb of about 20 metres, as it disappears into the fields. Shortly afterwards, the path leads straight to the chapel. Turn around and take a look at the Arnave valley. With your breath now restored, finish this pleasant climb.
(1) At the Saint-Paul Chapel, at an altitude of 711 metres, take a moment to enjoy the view of the Tabe massif. Now take the time to appreciate the site, its beauty, its calm and its obvious charm. Head left towards the south for the Col d'Ussat. You will enter the Barthala Forest, where the slope is steep at first... but it doesn't last long! A grove of oak trees at the small pass marks a pleasant slowdown. Descend, ascend, descend, and you will pass to the right of the Orri de Pédissol.
From the Pédissol plateau at an altitude of 746 metres, turn right. Soon you will reach the last hairpin bends of the climb, which will take you to the pass after a little effort.
(2) The Col d'Ussat, at an altitude of 843 m, offers a bird's eye view of the valley, with its numerous pastures and orchards. The Cazenave, Arnave, Ornolac and Tarascon trails intersect here. Your path leaves the pylon towards the east and plunges determinedly to the left towards Cammassan and Franquo (Franque). The Franque path takes you back to the D20.
(3) Follow it left up to the bridge, then to the car park (S/E)
