Description of the walk

(S/E) Starting from the village centre, at Place des Monts d’Arrée in front of the Tourist Office, head straight ahead towards the Church of Notre-Dame and Saint-Tugen. The path begins on the right before the church, on a track at the corner of two houses. Head down the Chemin du Carbon, then, after a short climb, follow the edge of a field to climb back up towards the village of Botquest. Pass by some farm buildings to reach the centre of the village.

(1) Turn left and follow the road to Croix Jacob. Turn right before the cross onto a path leading to a leat, the starting point of the electrification of Brasparts, launched around 1920 by Mr Caër. At the end of the path, take the D21 for 200 m to the Saint-Sébastien cross.

(2) Turn right, pass the Saint-Sébastien Chapel and its cross, then continue straight on for 300 m.

(3) Turn right onto a sunken path leading into the Botquest woods.

(4) At the end of the path, turn right again towards the village.

(1) Turn left and retrace the initial section in the opposite direction to reach the village of Brasparts via the Chemin du Carbon.

(S/E) Cross the village, passing to the left of the Tourist Office. About a hundred metres further on, on the right, walk alongside the village hall, then take the narrow lane leading to Goaremm-Edern, also known as ‘Le paradis des chats’ (Cat Heaven).

(5) On the left, after the fire hydrant, go down the sunken path leading to a wash house a few steps away on the right. Continue towards the fields. At the edge of the Bois de l’Isle, once owned by La Fayette, turn left to reach a local road and follow it to the right for 350 m. Take a path on the right before the village of Le Rhun to return to the woods.

(6) Head up to the left along the forest path that runs alongside a stream. At the junction of two paths, turn left to reach a tarmac road.

(7) Turn right onto this road, pass through the village of Tréoffret and continue straight on until you reach a junction where the Moënnec cross stands. Turn right and continue for about 450 m.

(8) On the right, just before a house, take the small path. At the entrance to the Bois de l’Isle, keep to the right to descend to the riverbank, which you follow for nearly 1 km.

(6) Follow the path back in the opposite direction.
So, turn right to rejoin a village road. Follow it to the left and take the first path on the left to return to the edge of the woods. Continue along the path to the right to return to the village of Brasparts (S/E).

A very tricky stretch of a few dozen metres, narrow and very muddy, even though it hadn’t rained for a few days

For lovers of sunken paths, there’s not much tarmac involved. We did this in wet weather, but the non-clayey mud doesn’t stick to your shoes. The estimated time is a bit overestimated; it can be done in 4 hours or 4 hours 15 minutes. After point 6, about 200 metres on; be careful to follow the yellow-marked PR trail – not the route shown on the website.
