In the Monts d'Arrée around Brasparts

Situated in the heart of the Monts d’Arrée, Brasparts offers a wide variety of landscapes: hills covered in woodland, moorland or lush farmland, steep-sided valleys with numerous pastures, and fairly dense hedgerows.
This route provides a fine overview of this rural commune.
Its religious heritage is well known, such as the Church of Notre-Dame and Saint-Tugen and its 16th-century ossuary, famous for its statue of the Ankou holding a javelin with the inscription ‘I will kill you all’.

Description of the walk

Car park at the village hall, on the Morlaix road which runs through the village.

PR Yellow-marked

(S/E) On leaving the car park, go round the village hall and turn right into a narrow lane. When the lane turns right, keep left, cross a courtyard and head down a sunken path towards the fields. Continue heading due north.

(1) At the edge of the Bois de l’Isle, veer right, find a forest path that runs alongside a stream and cross the woods to reach a local road near the hamlet of Treoffred.

(2) Turn left towards Kerrohan Farm and turn right at the gable end of the house. Follow this path, passing a transformer on your left, until you reach a three-way junction.

(3) Turn right and continue to join the D785, the Morlaix tourist route.

(4) Cross this road with extreme caution, as it is very busy, especially in summer; pass under a power line and arrive at aPR® junction.

(5) Turn left, following a stony path to the edge of a coniferous woodland.

(6) Turn left and head into this spruce forest (Menez ar Kili Vihan). Follow the path as it veers to the right, beginning a gentle descent. Ignore all side paths, pass under the power line again and emerge onto the D30.

(7) Take aright-left turn with care and enter a sunken track that crosses a village road. Continue straight on for about a hundred metres until you reach another track.

(8) Turn right towards Runavoualc’h. On leaving the village, to the right of a shed, a sunken track leads, alongside a stream, to the hamlet of Goël. Follow the access road to join a local track where theGR® 37-380 meets.

(9) Follow the road to the left for about 100 metres, then turn right following the markings onto a wide stony track and ignore a path on the left to reach a three-way junction.

No markings

(10) Turn left, leaving theGR® to continue to the right, pass the turn-offs to the hamlet of Benniel and arrive at a three-way junction. Continue straight on to reach the Chapel of Saint-Sébastien and its calvary, an ideal spot for a break.

(11) Continue along the road, passing Doulvenn Vraz on the right, and emerge onto the D21 at Kroaz Sant-Sébastien (Croix Saint-Sébastien).

(12) Follow this road carefully for about 250 m until you reach a path on the left.

(13) Turn left, cross two footbridges and turn left onto the path which joins a small road at a place called Croix Jacob.

(14) Turn left and follow the small road to the village of Botquest, where you will find thePR® marked in yellow.

PR marked in yellow.

In the centre of the village, turn right then take a path to the right of the two farm buildings. Follow this path as it crosses a stream and continue along a steep path that turns right and leads out near the cemetery.

(15) Follow this path and enter the churchyard, where you will find the ossuary and the calvary. Exit onto Rue de l’Église and turn into the first street on the left to reach the Morlaix road, the D785, in the centre of the village. Follow this road, passing the Tourist Office, then turn right into the street leading to the car park of the Brasparts village hall (S/E).

A lovely walk, with plenty of variety. The only downside is crossing the Bois de l'Ile during the rainy season. The water level in the stream misled us, causing us to follow the (very attractive) PR and GR signposts and end up on the road all the way to the Croix Moënnec. A tedious stretch. After that, we had to walk along a section of the D785 (which is dangerous) to get back onto the path. A superb picnic at the Troglogîtes picnic area, which seemed to be waiting just for us! The descent towards Brasparts: extraordinary.
Thank you to all those who have gone before us on the paths of our Breton heritage for their remarkable work.

A great horse riding route; there was a slight issue with the map and the signposting not matching up at the start of the route, but everything went smoothly after that – just follow the GR signposting.

Hello, for the walk, start at the municipal car park on the right as you leave the village towards Morlaix
Take the Gorre & Mene route towards the Bois de l’Isle
Before point 1, the signposts lead you back up to the road to cross the stream; you rejoin the route just after. The path takes you up to the summit at point 5, where you can have a picnic (note: there is only one table)
but the view of Mont Saint-Michel is SUPERB. Follow the Gorre route; the trail takes you to the St Sébastien chapel, where you can take the signposted Gorre route on your left or continue on to the St Sébastien cross, where you keep to your left to find the blue-marked ‘Chemin des Moulins’ path, which will take you to Brasparts
