Chemin des Ponts in Morgins

This easy round trip could have continued towards Lake Chésery, or even Lake Vert, to form a circular route returning via Tovassière, but the rain and thunderstorm forced us to turn back. It remains a lovely walk along the banks of the stream, featuring several welcome shelters for a picnic in changeable weather.

Description of the walk

Plenty of parking spaces near the start point, along the Route de France or further on, either before or after the church and its lovely carillon.

(S/E) From the large car park along the Route de France, on the right-hand side of the road heading towards France, walk down the street towards the church.

(1) At the fork, turn right onto the Route de Chésery, then leave the road to the left to join the Chemin des Ponts. Continue down the path to the banks of the Vièze de Morgins.

(2) At the clay pigeon shooting range, ignore the fitness trail on the left and carry on straight ahead along the river, crossing it several times.

(3) At the canteen (refreshment bar and restaurant, but closed throughout 2023 for building works), cross the building site via the designated passage between the fences to continue along the path towards the Étang de Sassey. The path climbs a little more steadily up to the Sassey farm (Sassex). Pass the farm on your right.

(4) Shortly after the farm, you can continue towards Fontaine Blanche and Lac de Chésery. This walk, however, suggests turning back. Follow the route in the opposite direction to the outward journey as far as the clay pigeon shooting range

(2) Follow the fitness trail on the right.

(5) Cross the bridge over the Vièze to reach the road running through the village. Do not return straight away to the car park on the left, but turn right towards the church and its carillon (the chimes vary depending on the day and time; see the programme at the church entrance).

(6) Turn back and follow the road to return to the car park (S/E).

I went for a walk in the late afternoon and only came across one other person, but this spot is really ideal for a family stroll, with plenty of places to stop and rest, and everything you need for a pleasant walk. It’s a shaded and very easy walk.

Magnificent, it climbs but it's not difficult.
You can extend the hike towards the lake or a restaurant without any problems, depending on what you feel like doing.
The directions on the Visorando app and the signs on site are clear.
Shaded, picnic tables, fire pit.
Wonderful flora.
A hike for all ages.

At this time of year, we were able to park directly in the large car park in front of the Morgins sports centre. So the walk started just behind the swimming pool (at the end of the parcours vita). But it's important to remember that we're out of season, so we were allowed to go that way. Otherwise, I think you'll have to follow the suggested itinerary.
It's a nice, cool walk along the river Vièze. Lots of vegetation.
Perfect for children, as there are more than thirty bridges to cross or see. There are a few shelters along the way where you can take a break, have a barbecue, and educational panels on the life of bees.
You can also dip your feet in the water. We pass the Morgins ferruginous spring.
When you reach the Thez refreshment bar, you can decide whether to eat, turn back or continue on.
This is a walk you can enjoy with your dog. Certainly very popular at weekends or during school holidays.
It took us about 1 hour, taking our time.
Good shoes as it can be slippery.
