Description of the walk

Starting point: on the route of the former Aérotrain (now the “Véloscénie” cycle route) of the Chemin Péguy, at the junction of this route and the D24 bridge leading to Roussigny.

(S) Take the road on the left and head up onto the plateau (“Plaine de Roussigny”).

(1) Pay close attention to the signposting in Roussigny: do not enter the hamlet but go round it on the right. Cross the D24 road and take the lovely 1km descent through the forest towards the Prédecelle valley. Cross the river and then cross the D152 road. Follow the cycle and footpath opposite along the small road, going up it for 400 metres.

(2) At the roundabout, on the descent towards Forges-les-Bains (Rue du Jeu de Paume), turn off a few metres further on towards Rue de l’Église to get the best view, from the apse.

Go round the church on the left and walk down the street (pharmacy on the left-hand pavement). Cross the D97 (Rue du Général Leclerc) directly opposite and take Rue des Richards (wash house on the right, then castle on the left). Walk up the street, which then becomes a path.

(3) At Limours marker no. 71 “La Butte Rouge”, turn left at a right angle. Pass marker no. 72 and, at marker no. 73 (elevation 133), turn right at a right angle.

Cross a small wood. As you leave the wood, ignore a path branching off to the left and arrive at a crossroads. (Marker No. 75, a clump of birch trees on the left).

(4) Then turn right, along the edge of the woods, and rejoin the main route of the Chemin Péguy at Marker No. 83 "La Gronnière" (E).

A pleasant walk, though quite urban. Part of it is through the woods.

Hello
We had trouble finding the starting point. There’s a large wooden cross which might be a useful landmark. Too many sections along the roads for my liking.
Have a nice day

This route via Forges-les-Bains, combined with the section between points 10 and 14 of the "Chemin Péguy 1 Palaiseau – Saint Cyr sous Dourdan" trail, makes for a pleasant 14-kilometre circular walk, with a total elevation gain of just under 140 metres. It takes around 4½ hours to complete at a moderate pace, allowing for reasonable breaks. Allow around 5 hours if you plan to have a picnic along the way. It can even be shortened to 12 km if you head directly to Forges via the "Haute Borne" from the hamlet of Chardonnet (or vice versa).

This walk is ideal if you’re looking for a half-day hike. Woods and forests, valleys and hills, cultivated plateaus and grazing meadows alternate throughout this varied and pleasant route, alongside the chance to discover the elegant town of Limours (capital of the Hurepoix) and the charming village of Forges-les-Bains, not to mention their surrounding hamlets. In addition to a rich architectural heritage, references to Charles Péguy and Jean Bertin’s experimental Aérotrain lend it a literary and scientific flavour. I therefore highly recommend this circular route.
