We start by driving to Oricourt and parking in front of the castle. The route is posted in front of the dovecote (large round tower).
(S/E) We follow Rue de la Perrière to the right, towards Oppenans.
(1) Just after the last house, take a path into the woods, marked by a yellow arrow and then yellow dots.
In Oppenans, turn left at the wash house and follow the signs for "Dolmen d'Aillemont".
(2) At the end of the village, follow a farm track on the right.
(3) At the next crossroads, turn left until you reach the junction with the D120 departmental road.
(4) At this point, turn right into the woods. In the middle of a clearing, a shed protects a Neolithic burial site dating from the third millennium BCE. Consisting of a dolmen and a stone pavement replacing the earlier tumulus, the site was excavated in 1973 and is currently protected by a chalet. When we visited, the door was open. Otherwise, openings allow you to see the burial site from different angles.
We then return along the departmental road, which we follow to the right until Aillevans, where we take the first left, Rue du Mont.
(5) We pass between several orchards and next to the old cemetery, leaving the tarmac to follow the path on the left.
(6) In good weather, you can see the blue line of the Vosges mountains and the white facades of the Chapelle de Ronchamp.
The forest path takes us back to Oricourt and the castle (S/E).
. It only really becomes interesting when you approach the covered dolmen and then, further on, from the cemetery (description could be improved), offering a beautiful view of Notre-Dame de Ronchamp in the distance (at the information board near the horse paddock), followed by a short stretch through the forest before heading back down towards Oricourt. The three wash house fountains and the bell tower of the village hall are really nice to look at, as are the castle itself, the replica of a small trebuchet next to a characterful dovecote, the winding path... and the possibility of picnicking in front of the old walls. A great outing that can be extended with visits to other sites (such as the abbey) or a stay in an unusual place (such as the Cocoo cabins at the Bonnal forges). Best regards. HNS 25220
