Rosanbo Castle

Winding through the Trégor countryside, this route will take you past the most imposing castle in Brittany. Built between the 14th and 18th centuries, it has belonged to the same family for several generations. It is furnished with period pieces and open to the public.

Description of the walk

Park in Tréduder, in the town hall car park.

(S/E) Head west along the Route du Veuzit. Follow it round a bend to the left, then another to the right.
First, ignore a road on the left and a track on the right; then, ignore a road on the right and a footpath on the left.

(1) Turn left, towards Milin-ar-Veuzit. Cross the Dour Plat stream. Continue along this road, ignoring all turn-offs to the right and left.

(2) At the end of the road, turn right and carry on straight ahead, passing a wayside cross on your left. Pass under a power line and, after a bend to the left, continue straight ahead at the Fork in the road.

(3) Carry on along the road, turning right towards Kerampateller. Continue southwards to Kroaz an Ale.

(4) Turn left. Cross a stream and, at the junction with a wayside cross on your left, turn right. After the hamlets of Gwernioneg, take the road on the left.

(5) Continue along the road to the right. Follow the road to the left towards Pont Poulaz. Cross the Dour Elégo stream and continue eastwards. Take the first road on the left towards the castle.

(6) Walk past the main façade and, after the gardens on the right, take the road on the right and join the D22 at Goaz Arou.

(7) Take the departmental road on the left (without crossing it) and at the first junction (crossroads), turn left.

(8) At the end of the road, turn left and, after 70 metres, take the path on the right. Passing under a power line, it leads northwards to Kerverzio.

(9) Continue to the right. At the first Fork in the road, take the left-hand path. At the next Fork in the road, take the path on the right. Continue to the left towards Vespéric, then carry on along Rue de la Mairie to reach the car park (S/E).

Hello Visorando users,
The walk entitled "Rosambo Castle" invites us to discover the Trégor countryside, which is as beautiful and sunny as ever, as it was on that day.
However, I would like to make a few comments:
• The GPX track and associated PDF take us through private property, which is always unpleasant and forces us to turn back.
• Furthermore, this walk involves more sections on roads than on paths. In addition, the detour around the castle takes us along a very busy road.
It would be preferable if the author suggested the short sections of the old GR trail instead, which are much more pleasant to walk on.
That is why my rating remains a little harsh: 3/5.

Same comments as above. Mainly road if you follow the route. But with a map, we were able to find a multitude of sunken lanes along the way, which made for a pleasant ride and limited the amount of time spent on the road. One of them was temporarily closed due to the collapse of the footbridge, but there are small roads that allow you to get around it.
At the castle, everything is private: go through the car park, take the path at the end, then turn left towards the farm and cross the farmyard to find a small road that will take you to the next path...
This is a hike that needs to be retraced but could be enjoyable. (14 km with the paths discovered along the way.)
No GPS at the time, so no new route can be added.

I did the walk in the opposite direction to the one described. When I reached the castle’s surrounding wall, there was a sign saying: ‘Private property – entry prohibited. Unauthorised entry will result in prosecution.’ That was the only highlight of the walk. The rest was far too much tarmac (11 km) on roads that were busy and dangerous in places. Best avoided.

First hike with Visorando. Result: a complete waste of time. 11km of tarmac road out of 12. I wouldn’t call that a hike. Next time I’ll study the description carefully and read the comments, but, off the top of my head, I’d never have thought such a thing was possible. At the very least, this should be stated right at the top of the descriptions.

A lack of forest tracks: but the roads are lovely and there’s very little traffic. So, towards the end, I took a detour onto the GR34B before heading back up to Treduder

Given the distance, I would have preferred more sunken paths

I did the Rosambo Castle route and was disappointed because there’s far too much tarmac and it wasn’t what I’d expected
