Circular route in Plestin-les-Grèves from Saint-Efflam to Sainte-Barbe and the Grand Rocher.

This beautiful circular walk is divided into two parts.

The first part follows the customs officers' path and runs along the seafront, passing numerous viewpoints, headlands and beaches until it reaches the banks of the Douron estuary.

The second part winds through the countryside of valleys and hamlets, revealing pretty manor houses before reaching its climax at the seaside, at an altitude of 84 metres, at the top of the Grand Rocher, which offers an exceptional view of almost the entire bay of Lannion and the Plestinaise countryside.

Description of the walk

The starting point is located in one of the beach car parks on Avenue de la Lieue de Grève in Saint-Efflam.

(S/E) Head west along the street that runs alongside the large seaside properties. At the first intersection, you can climb a few metres to see the spring and wash house, as well as the chapel overlooking them.

(1) Continue on the GR® 34 or customs officers' path, ignoring the various paths branching off to your left. Much further on, you will reach the Beg Douar site.

(2) Enjoy the amenities here, then set off again on the path behind the picnic tables. Pass Pointe de l'Armorique, then Pointe de Plestin. The path then heads south-west. After a small spring by the side of the path, you will find steps leading down to the beach.

(3) Depending on the tide and how you feel, you can go down to the shore, pass the rocks and arrive at the famous Grève des Curés. Otherwise, continue along the marked path. Both routes lead to the beach car park. Continue along the road overlooking the shore to reach a ramp leading to the beach and the sailing club.

(4) As before, you can choose to walk on the sand to reach the banks of the Douron estuary or continue along the path bordering the shore. From the beach, locate the ruins and head towards the remains of the Gallo-Roman baths.

(5) Visit the site and continue on your way, again with the choice of beach or path. On the beach, in a small cove enclosed by rocks to the south, look for the steps that take you back to the GR®. Cross the area along the mudflats to observe the many birds that inhabit the marshes. You will soon come to a junction with the road at point 6.

(6) Cross over to take the small road opposite. Then head for the Chapel of St. Barbe. Continue straight ahead on the marked trail. You can make a quick detour to see the nearby spring. Continue on this trail and, at the road, turn right to quickly reach the crossroads at elevation 28, at Traou an Dour.

(7) Cross this small road and continue to the crossroads opposite Kerallic Castle. Turn right and follow the road to the D786.

(8) Cross it carefully and continue straight ahead. When the road turns right, continue straight ahead on the farm track. Further on, pass in front of a beautiful large property and turn right in front of Kerviziou Castle. You will then reach the fork in the road at Penn an Alé.

(9) Turn left, descend into the valley and, at the crossroads, continue straight ahead towards Keravenou. Continue along the path that descends into the forest and follow the trail, keeping the stream on your right. At the road, turn right, continue, cross L'Aunaye and arrive at a small crossroads.

(10) Turn right and follow the path that climbs into the forest. Ignore the path that branches off to the left and continue climbing until you reach a second crossroads.

(11) Turn left and follow this path along the ridge.

(12) Leave the return path on your left and climb the rocks to reach the summit of Grand Rocher overlooking the bay.

(13) Retrace your steps for a few dozen metres until you reach a trail junction.

(12) Take the path that descends quite steeply to the right, then follow the right-hand path at the first crossroads. After a hairpin bend, you will reach the edge of the D 786 road.

(14) Follow the road to the left and cross it carefullyto take the footpath or the beach, depending on your preference and the tide level. Continue on to the beach car park (S/E).
