Park slightly downstream from the Diat bridge, near a bus stop. Yellow signposts are available just opposite the car park, before a short staircase.
(S/E) Follow the signs for Le Grand Logis. Walk along the left bank of the Guiers Mort, heading north-west, crossing it twice. At the second bridge, Valombre, take the track and keep a close eye out for the start of the path.
This starting point is not easy to spot. There is a cairn to mark it, but it is so small that it is not always visible. As a reference point, here is a tip: you are on a paved forest road. You have passed the barrier that blocks access. Just before the left side of the road becomes a 3-4 metre high rock barrier, the trail starts on the left.
(1) Take it and wind your way up a steep slope, heading generally south-west. Reach the foot of the wall.
(2) Follow it in a south-westerly direction on a very pleasant path. As you progress, the bottom of the valley comes into view, and the question of how to cross it becomes increasingly pressing. Reach the small pass of Collet, which joins theGRP® Tour de Chartreuse.
(3) Head straight onto theGRP® and follow a few steep hairpin bends to reach the pass without difficulty. A sign indicates the direction of Charmant Som. The path becomes more technical (especially in rainy or snowy weather): it runs alongside a beautiful sharp limestone pavement, which is quite steep in places. Look for another sign indicating the summit, due north.
(4) Turn right up the slope to reach the summit.
(5) Retrace your steps to the small pass, the crossroads of the two trails.
(3) Take the red and yellow markedGRP® trail on the right. Zigzag along the winding path, leaving a path on the right, to reach the Fontaine de Frettevieille.
(6) Continue downhill to the right, following the markings and signs for "Diat" to easily find your way back to the car park where you started (S/E).
