Park in the car park on the dyke by the lake.
(S/E) Leave the car park heading south, cross the bridge over the Canal de la Sauldre and turn right. Follow the left bank of the canal, marked in yellow/red.
Continue along the towpath, pass the Grande Planche lock and continue to the Lauroy lock, leaving three bridges on your right. Join the D79 road.
(1) Cross it, continue to follow the left bank of the canal, lined with plane trees, and reach a bridge.
(2) Cross it and continue along the long path, leaving all the side paths behind, pass the Étang de la Bline, then another pond, before reaching a crossroads at a place called Bel-Air. Continue straight ahead, pass the Étang des Bruyères and reach a four-way intersection.
(3) Turn right and follow this marked path, Circuit No. 2, towards the D79 and the Étang du Puits. You will reach a road.
(4) Cross and continue along the path opposite, marked CR 3 C. Walk along a fence until you reach an entrance on the left, marked by two green posts (gate dismantled) and marked CR 20.
(5) Take the passage between the two green posts, pass a pond, then leave a faintly marked path on the right and continue for about 200 metres.
(6) Follow a grassy path on the right, marked CR 22.
(7) At the end of the lane, first turn right then left onto the long CR 22 path and continue to La Landaserie, ignoring all side paths, as well as the CR 21 and Chemin de Mémoire.
(8) Cross the property's courtyard (the path is communal but the markings seem to have been removed) and continue to the next crossroads. Turn right onto a small road marked CR 19, leaving La Bagauderie opposite. Continue for about 300 metres and join the D765 road at a T-junction.
(9) Cross the road and then the ditch, go into the woods opposite and walk about 25 metres. Follow a path on the left towards Cerdon beach, passing a playground. Continue along the beach and then a grassy car park marked out by wooden posts. Continue along the car park until you reach a sign indicating "observatoire de la faune" (wildlife observatory). From here, you can walk to the observatory, about 400 metres there and back.
(10) Turn left and continue along the hill overlooking the road, marked Tour Étang. Go to a small disused railway line, then turn right to follow a pretty path that winds between the trees.
(11) Take the embankment to cross a ditch and continue along the path through the Bois aux Moines. Ignore all secondary paths and continue to a Y-junction ( no signposting). Take the left-hand path and continue to another path at a T-junction.
(12) Turn left and continue through the Bois des Fouchères, ignoring all paths to the right and left. At a Y-junction, take the path on the right, go through a gate and follow theGR®3C (white and red markings) on the right until you reach the Canal de la Sauldre.
(13) Turn right and continue along the right bank of the canal. Cross the weir bridge, leaving the Fouchères lock on your left with a small chapel behind it. Continue along the raised road that runs alongside the old campsite and the beach at Argent-sur-Sauldre, and return to the car park (S/E).
. In addition, much of the trail is shaded, which is nice when it's hot.
