Sologne trails starting from Villemurlin

Mainly on dirt, sand or gravel paths, this fairly easy circuit takes you through the peaceful and varied landscapes of the Sologne: ponds, forests, hedgerow-enclosed pastures and interspersed crops. At the start and finish, the pretty village of Villemurlin offers a typical Sologne charm with its brick houses and blue ladders, reminders of a time when the attic was accessed from outside.

Initially shared with the family path of Villemurlin (the "chouette promenade" or "owl walk"), this route then takes a shortened version of the former "PR® des domaines de chasse et cultures" (hunting grounds and farmland), of which a few signs remain.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the church square, take Rue de la Gare, passing in front of the village café. At the first crossroads, turn right onto Route des Farnaults: take the fitness trail on the grass on the left-hand side of the road, which is more pleasant than the tarmac and where you can test your fitness on the equipment.

(1) Cross the small Route des Farnaults at the pedestrian crossing and continue along the small road on the right to stay on the grass. Cross the footbridge and follow the Farnaults pond on the right (optionally, you can also walk around it)

(2) After 120 m, take the path on the right that leads into the woods on the discovery trail. Continue straight ahead on this path until you reach the Sentier des Chouettes (signposted), which you will follow to the left.

(3) At the end of the Sentier des Chouettes, follow the road to the left. After 100 m, take the gravel path called Chemin des Gelots (CR 4), which is lined with beautiful trees and a pretty pond. After the small property called La Lande, the path follows a beautiful straight line through the forest, continuing straight ahead after the Gelots farm.

(4) At the end of this forest lane, turn right onto the path that runs alongside fields for a good kilometre. At the tarmac road, take the road to the left for 150 m.

(5) Take the road on the right (CR 13) into the countryside and towards the woods. After 900 m, turn right at the Mignans crossroads onto the CR 11. Continue straight ahead for 1.2 km.

(6) Follow the small road to the right for 1 km. At the Mitouflin farm, turn left onto a sandy path.

(7) Keep the beautiful Oussoy pond on your left (private property, clearly visible from the road). After the pond and a bend to the right, follow the road straight ahead between hedges, meadows, ponds and small woods until you reach the village. At the end of the road, take the street on the right which will take you back to the church and your starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

In the village: brick church with a bell tower and a beautiful group of brick houses typical of the Sologne region.

The "blue ladders" featured on many houses are a reminder of the time when the first floor of these small houses was only accessible from the outside by means of a ladder. Perpetuating this memory, the blue ladders have become the village's identity marker, its trademark.

The Étang des Farnaults lake, together with the fitness trail, the Sentier de Découverte discovery trail and the Sentier des Chouettes owl trail, offers a beautiful place for families to relax and enjoy a pleasant walk
