Cabane de Mille - FXB Panossière hut

(S) From the Cabane de Mille, return to the pass and take the north-east path, which starts with a traverse before descending 200 m in a few hairpin bends. Cross two streams before taking a ridge heading due north downhill. Reach the Plan d'Arolle and then the Chaux de Servay mountain pasture.

(1) Follow the trail to a fork and continue to the right.

(2) Pass close to a small lake, then a few sheepfolds. Head towards Cabane Brunet, heading east, cross the stream and climb up to a building at 2,090 m. Continue along the path, cross two more streams before reaching the car park on the road leading to Cabane Brunet.

(3) Follow this road for about 500 m to reach Cabane Brunet.

(4) Take the path heading south-east, passing by a small pond to descend. Next to a ruin, follow the path straight ahead at an altitude of 2,100 m.

(5) At a small bridge, take the Col des Avouillons variant and leave the official trail on the left. The trail climbs back up to the Col des Avouillons, with an elevation gain of about 600 m.

(6) Begin the descent. Pass at the foot of the Petit Combin to admire the Corbassière glacier from above and rejoin the official trail.

(7) Continue to the right to reach the Corbassiére footbridge.

(8) Cross this 190-metre-long footbridge. Continue along a well-marked path that will take you to the other moraine of the glacier and to the junction with another trail.

(9) Take the ridge and then head south. Continue on the path slightly behind the ridge until you reach the FXB Panossière hut at 2,641 m (E).
