Circular Wulvergem–Nieuwkerke from Houplines

Start at Houplines secondary school, Rue Roger Salengro.

(S/E) Opposite the cemetery, turn left, then right onto Rue Paul Cézanne. Cross the Clos des Peintres, following the road to the junction after the roundabout.

(1) Turn left, pass the stadium, then keep left at the junction. Reach Rue Thiers and turn left onto it; it is a one-way street but open to cyclists. At the four-way junction, turn right, towards Belgium. Cross the bridges over the Lys, and follow the road to the next hamlet.

(2) Turn right onto Rue de la Howarderie and continue along this road until you reach the brickworks. At the stop sign, turn right (Rue du Touquet), continue for about 300 m, and you will come to a junction just after the cemetery.

(3) Turn left, cross the small car park, and take the rutted road on the left. Follow it for 200 m, and continue left before the bridge. Then follow the N58, cross the Gheer, and go straight on.

(4) At the Stop sign, cross with care, and continue straight ahead onto Chemin de Saint-Yvon, until you reach No. 42.

(5) Just before this, follow the cycle path to the left. At the next junction, turn left (Chemin du Mont de la Hutte), pass the Christmas Truce Monument (unveiled by UEFA President Michel Platini on 11 December 2014), then the Military Cemetery, and head to the next junction.

(6) Turn right, then immediately left onto Rue du Rossignol. Follow this road to the junction, a few metres past the farmhouse at No. 20.

(7) Continue right onto Drève des Papes, towards Wulvergem. Go round the Military Cemetery and follow Sint-Kwintenstraat to the left. At the end, turn left (Nieuwkerkestraat) and head for No. 57.

(8) Turn left onto Leeuwerkstraat, then right onto Naaikorfstraat. At the end, turn right onto Zuidlindestraat, then immediately left onto Bassevillestraat, and head towards Nieuwkerke Church.

(9) Turn left onto Niepkerkestraat, then take the^second street on the right, Kortepiijstraat. At the junction, carry straight on along Spiervelden until you reach a four-way junction.

(10) Turn right onto Temmersdreef, then right onto Groenestraat, and left at the small chapel on your left (somewhat hidden in the woods), until you reach the next junction.

(11) Turn left (Zakstraat), and carry on straight ahead until you reach Romarin. At the junction, turn left; at the next stop sign, turn right, leave the village and arrive at a junction.

(12) Continue to the right and carry on straight ahead until the end of Rue Mitoyenne.

(13) Turn left and head towards the chapel, which serves as a roundabout.

(14) Continue right onto Rue du Centenaire, cross the Bizet and carry on straight ahead. Return to France and reach the traffic lights. Turn left onto Avenue Léo Lagrange, heading towards Armentières cemetery, and arrive at a roundabout.

(15) Take the^2nd exit, Chemin du Pont Bayard, cross the bridge over the Lys, then take the cycle path immediately on the left. Follow the river; at the entrance to the sewage treatment plant, turn right and head back towards the Houplines bridge. At the end of Impasse des Deux Ponts, turn right, then at the stop sign, turn right onto Rue Carnot, and arrive at a junction with two left turns.

(16) Take the second street on the left, Rue des Glycines. Ride straight through the housing estate and, at the crossroads opposite No. 12, turn right, then at the next junction, turn left, and return to the car park at Houplines secondary school (S/E).
