Circular route around Kemmel from Houplines

Start atHouplinessecondary school, Rue Roger Salengro.

(S/E) Opposite the cemetery, turn left towards Belgium, then right onto Rue Paul Cézanne, and left onto Allée Edgar Degas. Continue along Rue des Glycines and follow it to the end.

(1) Turn right (Rue Carnot), at the four-way junction, turn left towards Belgium. Go up and cross the bridge over the Lys, then go down to the next four-way junction.

(2) Turn left onto Rue du Cimetière, then right onto Rue de la Mélune, the old road leading to Bizet. At the stop sign, turn left, then at the roundabout, take the^second exit onto Drève des Rabeques. At the very end, turn left and head back up to the stop sign at the end of Chemin de la Blanche (minimarket on the left).

(3) Turn right, head up to Ploegsteert, go round the roundabout, then take the road on the left, Chemin des Vaches, just after the petrol station. Continue straight on, enter the Bois de la Hutte and arrive at a junction.

(4) Turn left, then, at the next road, turn right. Pass the Notre-Dame des Prés Chapel and, at the junction at the top of the small hill, turn right onto Rue du Rosssignol. Continue for about 100 metres until you reach a fork in the road, on a concrete area, just after farm no. 15.

(5) Turn left, head down towards a military cemetery, then continue along the road and go up to a crossroad. Turn left and you will reach Wulvergem Church.

(6) Just before the church, turn right onto Wulvergemstraat, then left towards Pond Farm Cemetery. Follow Vrooilandstraat straight on until you reach Wijtschaestraat.

(7) Turn left, cross the village of Kemmel, heading towards De Klijte, N304. Reach a four-way junction at number 60. Continue straight on for a few metres until you reach the next junction.

(8) Turn left, then left again, and follow Terrierstraat. At the crossroads, turn right onto Lokerstraat, then immediately right onto Klareputstraat, and follow it to the end.

(9) Turn left onto Noordstraat, continue straight ahead at the next junction, and reach Kemmelweg.

(10) First turn left then right, and follow Koenraadstraat to a four-way junction.

(11) Turn right onto Godtschalckstraat and continue to a three-way junction at the first houses in Loker.

(12) Just after no. 30, turn left onto Dondeyneweg, thus bypassing the village. At the end of the street, turn left (N322), pass a small cemetery, and reach the next junction, just before house no. 224.

(13) Turn right onto Victoriastraat, then right again onto Koudekotstraat, and reach No. 15.

(14) Immediately after, turn left onto Festivalstraat and, at the end, continue right onto Hillestraat until you reach No. 9. Turn right onto Hillesttraete and follow it to the end.

(15) At the stop sign, turn left onto the D13, then, after about 100 metres, turn left again onto Kromme Sraete. Keep right, then take the second road on the left.

(16) Turn left onto Wesel Dreve and follow this road until you reach a crossroads.

(17) Continue to the right. At the next junction, first turn right then left, and carry on straight ahead to the end of Feuter Dreve.

(18) Cross the D933, carefully making the first turn right then left , and continue along Abeele Dreve. At the next junction, turn left onto Meys Dreve and reach a side road. Turn left and take the first road on the right, into the village of La Créche.

(19) Turn right onto Rue des Ajoncs, towards Steenweerk. At the next junction, cross the level crossing and, about 100 metres further on, turn left onto Rue de la Stillebecque.

(20) At the end of the road, opposite No. 47, turn left. Cross the railway tracks again and, 500 m further on, take Rue des Trois Arbres on the right, then, at the next junction, turn left onto Sentier de Steenwerck. Follow this road to the end, and you will reach the first houses of Nieppe.

(21) Continue to the right onto Boulevard des Anglais, then carry on almost directly opposite onto Rue des Cigognes, and stay on this road until you reach No. 1525. Turn left and, at the roundabout, take the cycle path running alongside the D1945, towards Armentières. Cross the bridge over the Lys and you will immediately come to a junction.

(22) Cross the road and take the access to the towpath on the left. Continue to the right, along the riverbank, until you reach the entrance to the Houplines sewage treatment plant.

(23) Leave the towpath and head towards the bridge over the Lys. Ignore the bridge and turn right. At the Stop sign, continue straight on along Rue Faidherbe, then Rue Anatole Musy, and rejoin Rue des Glycines. Turn left and, following the route in reverse, return to the car park atHouplines secondary school on Rue Roger Salengro (S/E).
