Description of the route

Start atHouplines College, Rue Roger Salengro.

(S/E) Opposite the cemetery, turn left then immediately right onto Rue Paul Cézanne, and left onto Rue des Glicines. Walk straight through the housing estate to reach the main Houplines-Frelinghem road.

(1) Turn right then left towards Belgium, cross the bridge over the Lys and reach a four-way junction.

(2) Turn left onto Rue du Cimetière, then right onto Rue de la Mélune, and continue straight on to Le Bizet.

(3) At the end, continue left onto Rue du Touquet, then turn right onto Rue d'Armentières. Follow this road and, at the Fork in the road, keep left onto Rue du Centenaire. You will reach a chapel, situated in the centre of a roundabout, and continue a few metres to the left until the next junction.

(4) Turn right onto Rue Sainte-Marie, ignore the turnings on the right and continue until you reach a crossroads (Stop).

(5) Continue left (Rue du Romarin) until you soon come to Zuidlindestraat on the right. Take this and continue straight on until the second road on the right.

(6) Turn right onto Waterstraat and follow it to the next junction. This avoids having to continue all the way up to Nieuwkerke.

(7) Turn right and carry on straight ahead until you reach No. 5 in the hamlet of Rossignol.

(8) Immediately after, turn right onto track C3 and, at the end, turn left. Cross the N365 (Rue de Messines) with care and head straight ahead onto Chemin du Mont de la Hutte to reach the military cemetery and the 1914 Christmas Truce Memorial.

(9) Immediately after, turn right onto the C11.

(10) Go round it and continue to the second fork.

(11) Turn left, enter the Bois du Gheer, cross it and stay on the main track until the end of Chemin de Crampon.

(12) Turn right (N515) and head towards the centre of Ploegsteert. At the roundabout, take the^3rd exit, the N365, towards Bizet, and continue to 178 Rue d’Armentières.

(13) Continue left onto Chemin de la Blanche, then right onto Drève des Rebecques. At the roundabout, take the^first exit, Rue du Touquet, towards Bizet, and arrive at the junction you passed on the way there, at No. 141.

(3) Turn left and follow the route back along the same road as on the way there until you reach the car park at Houplines secondary school (S/E).
