Circular around the Gimond stream starting from the Hat Museum

Park in the carpool parking area near the Hat Museum.

(S/E) Head north on Rue de la Liberté to join the Route de Lyon (D12), which you should follow carefully to the right towards Grézieu-le-Marché. Pass the pumping station and the water tower.

(1) Turn right onto Chemin du Sably. Continue straight ahead until you reach the houses in Sably and continue along the road. Cross the Gimond via the small bridge and head uphill towards an intersection.

(2) Turn left, heading north, and continue along the path. Cross the Gimond again and then head uphill.

(3) At the tarmac road, take the small path on the right.

(4) Follow the road to the right towards Moulin Berry. At the entrance to the hamlet, take the path on the left which climbs up towards Grézieu-le-Marché.

(5) You will come out onto the Route de Pomeys (D71). Follow this road to the right until you reach the bottom of the valley. Cross the Gimond again.

(6) Immediately afterwards, take the path on the left, heading east, which joins a crossroads near the Gas buildings.

(7) Turn left, heading north, to descend towards the Gimond. On the path, looking to your right, you will see the Gimond dam. You will arrive at a pond.

(8) Cross the bridge over the Gimond, go up the path, then take the small road until you reach the D34 at Le Planchet.

(9) Turn right and follow the road carefully until you reach Chemin des Flaches on the right, which you should follow. After the third house on the right, take the path down to the Gimond dam and the caretaker's house.

(10) Follow the road on the left and walk along the reservoir on your right until you reach a car park.

(11) Turn right and cross the Gimond again. Immediately turn right, walk along the reservoir and reach the other end of the dam.

(12) Take the path that climbs up to the left through the Bois de Pomeys. Keep going in the same direction, ignoring the side paths, and you will reach a junction of several paths at a place called La Rully: there is an orientation table a little higher up on the right.

(13) First turn right then left to take the small path behind the house and follow it to the road called Chemin du Gas. Turn right and, after a good hundred metres, take the path on the left that leads to the Croix de l'Orme.

(14) Reach the picnic area and take the path to the right of it. Follow this path through the Coutarcy woods until you come to a small road at a cross.

(15) Take this road downhill and continue south for just over a kilometre.

(16) Turn right onto the tarmac road (Chemin de l'Osier) and continue along the dirt track that follows it.

(17) Cross the Gimond one last time, go up to Chemin de la Font Rivaud and continue straight ahead to reach the Hat Museum and the carpool car park (S/E).

There are several picnic areas along the route. You can picnic by the Gimond reservoir. Please do not throw anything into the reservoir as it is used to supply drinking water.

Please note that you will be riding alongside the D12 in town (in Chazelles-sur-Lyon) and the D34 (in Grézieu-le-Marché), where there may be some traffic. Please exercise caution.
