Circular walk starting from Saint-Denis-sur-Coise

Park in the car park in the village of Saint-Denis-sur-Coise.

(S/E) Set off by carefully crossing the road, go up the steps that run between the houses and head towards the church. Go round the church on the right and continue up the road. When you reach the cross, take the road on the left and continue until the bend.

(1) Take the path on the right and head towards the Ruisseau de Romarey. Turn right again at^{the first} junction. Cross the stream and join the road. Carry on straight ahead, passing the houses at Le Creux, until you reach another junction.

(2) Take the path on the left, which leads uphill. At the edge of the wood, turn right, follow the edge of the wood and, a few steps further on, you’ll come to a junction where five paths meet.

(3) Take the path furthest to the left and continue through the woodland. Pass a path on the left, then another on the right, and reach the hamlet of La Chanal.

(4) Continue along the road to the right, then pass through the hamlet of L’Orme and reach another Fork in the road.

(5) Take the road on the left, pass through the hamlet of Le Freynet, then the cross, and continue along the path opposite until you reach the road leading to the hamlet of Les Prés.

(6) Turn right onto this road for a few metres, then turn left off it onto the track. Stay on this track until you reach the crossroads near La Montagne.

(7) Carry on straight ahead until you reach the junction with the D3.

(8) Cross it carefully, head towards the hamlet of Terrasson, turn right and descend to the road leading to La Guillermière.

(9) Leave this hamlet on your right, begin an easy climb here and reach the hamlet of Lupin. Take the road on the left to reach the hamlet of La Grande Val.

(10) After the houses, take the path on the right and reach a crossroads at the entrance to the village of Coise. Turn onto the ascending road on the left. At the next road, turn left to reach the crossroads by the chapel.

(11) Turn left to reach the Chapelle de la Peur quickly.

(12) Return to the previous crossroads.

(11) Continue down the hill to the left. At the Petite Val crossroads, take the road on the right. You’ll reach the^GRP® des Monts du Lyonnais.

(13) Turn left onto it and follow the yellow and red signposts until you reach the entrance to Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise.

(14) Leave the^GRP® here, turn left onto the Route de Coisne, then immediately left again onto the Chemin des Pinasses, and head for the hamlet of Les Pinasses, near the sports grounds.

(15) Continue along the path, following the River Coise. After the hamlet of Les Garennes, you’ll reach a road. Take the road straight ahead and you’ll come out onto the D4. Turn left onto it, taking care, and you’ll find the^GR®765East at the next bend.

(16) Follow it for a few metres; it runs alongside the D5, then turn right before the bridge over the Coise. Follow the red and white markings, passing the hamlet of La Bourdinière, then that of Le Plat. Walk some distance alongside the Coisne, then draw closer to it and, along its right bank, reach the bridge. Cross to the left to return to the car park in the village of Saint-Denis-sur-Coise (S/E).

(12) Despite its name, the Chapelle de la Peur is a beautiful spot high up, ideal for a picnic whilst enjoying a lovely view.
