Departure from the centre of Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise, Espace Albert Maurice car park.
(S/E) Head down towards the village and the town hall, cross to the right-hand pavement and walk through the public garden.
(1) At the exit, follow the small blue signs indicating paths 1 & 2. The markings take you on a short route through the historic centre: from Place de Verdun, turn left onto Rue des Maréchaux, then Rue de Lyon, turn right onto Rue de la Bouterie until you reach Place du Marché. Pass to the right of the town hall and walk alongside the 15th-century Romanesque church on your left via the Passage des Ursulines.
(2) Take the stairs down to Boulevard André Margot, then turn right onto Rue de Chazelles.
(3) Before a group of houses, turn left onto the path that runs alongside the stream (Ruisseau d'Orzon). Pass in front of a natural climbing site called "Le Calvaire" and continue until you reach the junction with the D 4 (Rue de Saint-Étienne).
(4) Follow it to the left and, in the bend, turn right onto Chemin des Garennes and continue to a place called Les Garennes.
(5) Take the path on the right and follow the riverbank, La Coise, until you reach Stade des Pinasses.
(6) You will come to a rest area with tables, benches, a barbecue, water, toilets and pétanque courts (!). Ideal for a picnic. Continue along Chemin des Pinasses (river path on Google Maps) until you reach Route de Coise (D71) and follow it for a few metres before taking Chemin Grange Bâtie opposite. Turn onto the first path on the right, which runs alongside a field. Pass Moulin Fulchiron and you will arrive at the D2.
(7). The path runs alongside the Route de Givors (D2) after several fields and ends with a hairpin bend at the junction with the D63 (La Chazotte). Cross the road to join a path that cuts across the D2 and joins the Route du Mas to the north. The path is very well marked.
When you reach the Mas intersection, marked paths 1 & 2 fork. To extend the walk by an hour, follow path 2 on the right (Route du Mas), otherwise stay on path 1, turning left (Vieux Coise) to return to the start by following this route (map route)
(8) Turn left at the next intersection, then join the path that continues along the road before the bend. Take the second path on the right (Grange Neuve), then turn off again at the first bend, taking the path on the left. Continue along this route until you reach the Chemin de Saint-Jean, which you follow all the way to turn left onto the D311 and return to the starting point (S/E).
