A lovely, very pleasant walk, quite varied, without difficulty and well marked. You can enjoy beautiful scenery for most of the route.

Description of the walk

Reach Le Saix via the D49, which starts from the D994 between Serres and Veynes. Cross the village and continue for about 600 metres on the D249t to find a small car park (road not recommended from here).

(S/E) On foot, continue south.
You will soon find yourself in the Gouravour Gorges, dominated by superb cliffs. Continue in the same direction to reach Le Faï (see the spectacular waterfalls), following the Maraize Torrent.

(1) Leave Le Fay on your left and continue south then south-east along the torrent.

(2) At the Cirque de Clausonne (where you can visit the ruins of the Old Abbey of Clausonne), continue straight ahead until you reach the foot of the Peyssier Dam.

(3) At the dam, turn right to go around Lac de Peyssier and reach the Plateau du Peyssier.
Continue to the mountain pasture at the foot of Montagne d'Aujour to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

(4) Return to the car park (S/E) by following the same route you took on the way there.

As mentioned, parking is limited at the start of the route, but there are two parking spaces a little further away.
The route follows a forest track that locals can use by car (4x4 recommended).
You will pass by the FAÏ horns, a remarkable acoustic achievement (European project) that uses the echo of the cliff located just opposite.
The climb up to Lake Peyssier is essential to complete a circular hike.

After the lake, it is possible to continue on to the Oustaous lodge (about an extra hour round trip). Drinks and meals are available, and there is a beautiful view of the valley from a small promontory near the lodge.

A very pleasant walk, but not to be undertaken in very hot weather. An alternative: the beautiful Gouravour stream with its pools and waterfalls where you can cool off!
