Peyrat Circular Trail

In Le Bugue, from the tourist office, drive towards “Campagne – Le Coux” (same direction as for Les Eyzies). Just before the sign marking the entrance to the village of Campagne, turn right towards Le Coux and Bigaroque, then take the second road on the right, towards “La Fage, Le Muscle, Les Egals”. You can park at the entrance to the hamlet of La Fage, on a grassy area.

(S/E) Head back down the Route du Peyrat to the crossroads.

(1) Turn right in the hamlet of La Fage, onto the small road leading downhill. At the bend, stay on the road as it slopes gently downwards. On the left, the view opens up onto the Campagne quarry (limestone extraction). Stay on this road until you reach the hamlet of La Redonde.

(2) At this crossroads with several signposts for hiking trails, follow the signs for “Coux et Bigaroque, Mouzens, Siorac” whilst staying on the same road. At the bottom of the small road, at the crossroads, continue straight on towards Le Terme. Further on, at the hairpin bend, climb up the small forest path on the embankment (see^{the second} marker at the top of the embankment). The slope is a little steep towards the end of the path. Emerge from the forest at the hamlet of Cabans (path named “Circular Route of Cabans”).

(3) Turn right twice onto the tarmac road towards the hamlet of Le Peyrat, then left onto the road of the same name. Continue to the farm.

(4) Turn right in front of the long building (equestrian centre). Continue straight on and take the path that runs alongside the meadows (a path that can be used by horse riders). At the next crossroads, follow the hiking sign indicating ‘Circular Peyrat’, ‘Audrix 3.9 km’, ‘Le Bugue 8.3 km’, keeping to the right on a path that descends at first before levelling out. Arrive at the hamlet of Les Egals.

(5) At the three-way junction, turn left towards the farmhouse, then turn left again onto a dead-end track. Follow the shaded path that continues from there to reach the four-way crossroads at the bottom of a small valley.

(6) Head uphill, immediately to the right, following the signs for “Circular Route of Peyrat”, “Le Bugue” and “Campagne”. You’ll emerge, at a right angle, at the hamlet of La Croix du Muscle.

(7) Turn left onto the tarmac road (Route du Muscle). Continue straight on to the centre of the hamlet and the 90° right-hand bend.

(8) Head right, towards “Circular Route of Peyrat”, “Campagne 4.5km”, “Les Eyzies”. Follow the path until you reach a wider track. Turn left, then, at the end of the track, turn right.

(1) Carry on straight ahead until you reach the starting point (S/E).

(5) Here you will find an old wash house, now dry, a well and a small spring where you may be able to spot palmate newts.
(7) Along the way, take a moment to admire the fountain and its beautiful statues, as well as the old wash house.
