Circular Dolmen starting from Saint-Chamassy

The village of Saint-Chamassy is located 6.5 km from Le Bugue. In Le Bugue, head towards Le Buisson/Bergerac. The first road leading to Saint Chamassy is on the left, along the RD31 near the Manoir de Perdigat, crossing a railway line.

(S/E) At the sign near the town hall, take the road heading east towards Audrix (Route du Château de Labattut).

(1) Turn left at the first intersection to find the start of a path. Take the path slightly uphill. It leads to a small tarmac road which you should take on the left (Route de Fonlionel). This leads to a T-junction at a place called Saint-Félix.

(2) Turn left onto Route de Perdigat. At the crossroads, take the^second right towards La Queyzie and you will arrive at the first hamlet.

(3) Cross the hamlet, continuing along the same road. Pass a second hamlet on your right (Péchantouny). Then leave the access road to Château de la Queyzie on your left. After about 800 m, you will reach an intersection.

(4) Take the marked path that goes around the hill and leads to the Fontaine de Pécany. Cross a road at the end of the path and continue along a dead-end road between the houses. Continue straight ahead until you reach the entrance to the woods. Enter the woods via a path that leads to a tarmac road, which you should follow for 180 m until you reach a Y-junction.

(5) At the junction, turn right towards Lambiran. Ignore a junction on the left and continue straight ahead until you reach the last houses. Shortly after these, follow the path that descends into a valley before joining a track, then a road (Route de Falgueyrat).

(6) Cross the tarmac road and follow the path of the same name towards Cantegrel. Continue straight ahead until you reach the tarmac road

(7) From this point, you can see the dolmen by turning left (see the section "during or nearby"). Otherwise, continue for 100 m. At the first bend, take the path below the road on the left, then continue along the path that leads back up to the heights. You will come to a Y-junction.

(8) Take the path that stays at the bottom of the valley. Continue straight ahead until you reach the next road (Chemin du Luc).

(9) Turn right onto the road, then immediately left to rejoin the path. Follow it to its end.

(10) Turn left towards the village, then right to reach the signpost (S/E).

Access to the dolmen:

At (7), turn left then right. Make a turn. The dolmen is on the right. The Saint-Chamassy Dolmen, known as Roc Del Cayre, is listed as a historic monument. It was studied by the archaeological society in 1883 and excavations revealed the presence of a headless skeleton and a flint stone. This megalith is located on the edge of the old road from Saint-Chamassy to Bigaroque. When the road was built, it was preserved, but some of the table supports were modified to consolidate the structure. All the stones of the dolmen are made of red sandstone.
