From Périgueux, take the N221, then the D6089 and the D710 towards Le Bugue. Park at the Place du Pré Saint-Louis.
(S/E) From the starting sign on Rue de la Boétie, opposite the Pré Saint-Louis, turn left onto this street, passing the post office and then the fire station. Follow the RD703 to the right towards Limeuil and Trémolat for 250 m. Pass the houses at Le Cingle and look out for the Chemin des Noisetiers.
(1) Head off to the right towards the hamlet of La Croze. After a fairly steep climb, which offers a view of Le Bugue, take the path on the right and ignore a wider track coming from the same direction. You’ll arrive at the hamlet of La Croze.
(2) Continue the circular route by turning right onto the small road (Impasse de la Croze), turn left and then right again at the junction at the end of the road. Turn left at the hamlet of Canteyrat and you’ll soon reach the houses.
(3) Take the path on the left and carry on straight ahead through the woods. Further on, turn left and, almost immediately afterwards, turn right onto the small road (Route de Bara Bahau). You’ll soon come to the junction with Impasse de Lambertie.
(4) Turn left towards Lambertie. Keep going in this direction until you reach the hamlet.
(5) Turn right towards the barn, following the signs for ‘Circular Route’. After a fairly steep descent, cut across a short stretch of road and then a section of path before turning left. Take the tarmac road that continues from there, cross a stream and you’ll come to the RD703.
(6) Walk alongside it on the left for about 100 m (caution: busy road) and take the path on the right into the woods. Continue straight on. As soon as you reach the plateau, turn right, then take the path on the right after about 100 m. After a descent of 50 to 70 m, you’ll come to a T-junction.
(7) Turn left into the woods onto the path that leads back down the hill. Be careful: cross the departmental road (Route de Sainte Alvère – D703) again to rejoin the path opposite. About 150 m further on, continue along the path on the right and climb up to the houses in Le Maine.
(8) At the end of the track that extends the path, turn left onto Impasse du Maine, then turn right onto Route de Bara-Bahau. Continue until you reach the second path on the left.
(9) Take this track, then, about 200 m further on, follow the path to the right to the end to rejoin the Route de Bara-Bahau.
(10) Turn left for a few dozen metres, then left again onto the footpath. Continue past the hamlet of La Peyre until you reach the junction with the Route de la Lande.
(11) Turn right, then at the junction with the Route de Périgueux, turn left with care for about 100 metres until you reach the pond.
(12) Cross carefully to take the path on the right running alongside the Ladouch Stream. Carry on until you reach the three-way junction.
(13) Take the Route de Ladouch opposite, then carry on straight ahead along the Chemin du Moulin. At the end of this path, continue straight ahead along the Impasse de la Maillerie, which runs parallel to the RD32E5 before rejoining the Route de Périgueux. Take this road to the right for 100 m, then turn left to join the Route des Babots.
(14) Turn left. Pass the cemetery and take a first right then left to reach the Place du Pré Saint-Louis (S/E).
