Description of the walk

(S/E) Start from the car park at the Soulaines village hall.

Head south towards the D960, cross it at the pedestrian crossing and turn right for 50 metres. Turn left onto Rue de la Fromagerie, then at the Fork in the road, turn right and continue to the woods.

(1) Cross the woodland, following the path which winds its way for 800 m.

(2) When you reach the RD74, turn right and continue along it through the woods until you reach the hunting lodge.

(3) Take the path on the left which heads west, then turns north-west as it winds through the forest. Cross the footbridge and continue to the D960 road.

(4) Cross with great care and turn right to walk alongside the road for 200 m.

(5) Enter the Domaine Saint-Victor on the left. Walk to the car park, turn right and, after 50 m, turn right again and continue along the narrow path. Cross a stony track and go straight on; you can take the time to visit the gardens, have a meal at the tables amongst the trees and watch the fallow deer.

(6) Turn right and walk to the iron gate with a gatekeeper: make sure it is properly closed behind you.

(7) Turn left onto the footpath that runs alongside the D960 to the village of Soulaines. Turn left immediately after crossing the bridge and continue to the car park at the village hall (S/E).

A perfectly signposted route starting from the St Victor estate, heading right towards the forest. The paths are easy to walk on and well maintained. A lovely walk with a beautiful view of Soulaines as you emerge from the forest.
The village of Soulaines is well worth a visit – it’s very pretty. On the way back, after walking alongside the A-road, go through the gate just before the St Victor estate to see the fallow deer.

A walk taken on a lovely August morning, with mild temperatures.
The route is quite challenging through the forest from the hunting meeting point; it’s best to have a GPS. The Domaine St Victor is very interesting, even though I didn’t see any fallow deer.
The last 2 km along the road are uninteresting; it’s better to do a circular route starting and finishing at the St Victor estate.
Don’t miss a visit to the village of Soulaines-Dhuys – it’s well worth a look.
Thanks to the route planner

Just a quick note: I’ve walked this route both ways and, in the end, the anti-clockwise direction is the more interesting one. Please note that the path leading out of the woods isn’t maintained: it’s a grassy track that hasn’t been mowed.
Enjoy your walk.
