The Thu Wood in Ceffonds

A walk through the Champagne plains and woodland, featuring a wide variety of tree species. As the area is somewhat remote, it is possible to spot many endemic species: foxes, roe deer, badgers (if they’re willing to show themselves) or their setts.

Description of the walk

On leaving La Grève, heading towards Sauvage-Magny, take the last street on the left and park after the last farm.

(S/E) Follow the farm track southwards until you reach the edge of the Bois de Thu.

(1) Keep to the left and continue due south until you reach the RD182.

(2) Cross the RD182 with care, continue straight ahead and carry on for about 1.3 km along the track. You’ll reach a T-junction with another track.

(3) Turn right and follow this forest track for a good hundred metres, then leave it and turn right, heading north-west, onto a straight track.

(4) At the next T-junction, turn right and immediately turn right again, heading east, into the avenue of fir trees. Continue to the next junction.

(5) Turn left, heading north, and follow the ditch for about 350 metres.

(6) Continue to the left along the ditch, which marks the boundary of the municipality.

(7) At the first junction, turn right. Then climb the embankment to reach the RD182, cross the road with care (bend) and follow the path that branches off to the left, heading west, around the bend. Continue to the second junction on the right.

(8) Turn right twice. Continue for more than 100 m, then turn left onto a straight path.

(9) In the Thu woods, take the third fork on the right. At the end, turn left to join the path leading to La Grève. Return to the three-way junction at the start.

(11) Turn left to return to the car park (S/E).

Thank you very much for your comments. And yes, with all the rain we’ve had, there’s water everywhere and it’s taking a while to drain away.
Enjoy your walks

A short, easy walk. There are a few places where the ruts are filled with water.
