Circular of Palus via Pointe de Plouha

A hike that begins with a gentle climb on a tarmac road, allowing you to warm up before following the GR®34, which is more rugged. The last third of the hike offers breathtaking views of the sea as you pass by Pointe de Plouha (the highest cliff in Brittany).

Like any circular, it can also be done in the opposite direction, thus avoiding a descent down stairs that may be considered problematic. In this case, you will need to make a significant effort from the outset.

Description of the walk

Park in the small car park to the right of the first houses when coming from the village of Plouha (Route du Palus).

(S/E) Leave the car park and turn left onto the tarmac road leading up to the village of Plouha (D32) and follow it for about 1300 m.

(1) Just after the crossroads, ignore the road going uphill on your left and turn right onto the stony path that goes up into the woods. Follow this path until you reach the hamlet of Saint-Edern. At the end of the road, you will come to a crossroads.

(2) Facing the calvary, turn right

(3) After 200 metres, turn right onto the path leading to the Saint-Jean Chapel.

(4) Then return to the road.

(3) Turn right. Pass in front of a large farm and reach a crossroads.

(5) Turn left onto the road going uphill.

(6) After 120 metres, go between two houses and walk along the edge of the fields until you reach a road.

(7) Turn left and continue for 200 metres.

(8 ) Turn right at a place called Le Turion and continue for 200 metres until you reach a crossroads.

(8) Turn right to cross the hamlet of Le Turion, ignoring a turn-off on the left, then three turn-offs on the right. Pass the hamlet of Kerjean.

(9) Turn right onto a former municipal campsite that has been converted into a motorhome area. Cross this area under tall pine trees and continue to its lowest point to reach the GR®34.

(10) Turn right onto the GR®34, ignoring all the small paths on the right and left for 2,800 metres. This section has significant elevation changes with constant views of the sea.

(11) Stop at the Pointe de Plouha promontory (104 m), the highest cliff in Brittany, which offers views of the wind farm in Saint-Brieuc Bay on a clear day. Continue along the coastal path.

(12) At the crossroads, continue down towards Palus Beach via a staircase with very uneven steps, which must be taken with the utmost caution. At the road, turn right, pass in front of the two restaurants and head for the car park (S/E).

A beautiful countryside route, a coastal path with superb sea views, though challenging in places.

Thank you for your opinion.
As for the descent, you are right, the main drawback is that you have to start with a real effort when cold (this applies to sporty people); for others, the recommended direction allows you to "warm up".
I will amend the description accordingly.
Kind regards

It is preferable to do this hike in the opposite direction. It is much less dangerous to climb the stairs than to descend them.
That's what I did. It takes a bit of stamina!
