Circular route in Plouha, from Palus to Gwin Zégal

A lovely hike starting from Palus Beach, which will take you along the customs officers' path to the Port of Gwin Zégal with its distinctive mooring posts, which are almost unique in the region. The passage through Pointe de Plouha and Le Pommier offers magnificent views of the coast and the highest coastal cliffs in Brittany. The return journey is along rural roads through various typical hamlets and beautiful forest paths.

Description of the walk

The walk starts from the Plage du Palus car park.

(S/E) Head towards the sea wall and look for the very steep staircase on the left. After a left turn, continue on to a GR® fork.

(1) Turn right onto a less steep slope. Continue along this path for several kilometres, ignoring the small side paths. Further on, you will come to a junction with a larger path leading from a car park.

(2) Turn right and stay on the coastal path. Enjoy the view from the viewpoint, then continue on your way. After leaving the shore, you will reach a ford over a small stream.

(3) Cross the stream and turn right, heading north-northeast, until you see Pointe du Pommier. Walk past the car park and you will soon reach the tarmac road leading to the small port of Gwin Zégal.

(4) Turn right onto a road and then a fairly steep path to reach this unique site , almost unrivalled in Brittany, with its huge piles used to moor boats. Depending on the tide, you can climb the rocks in front of you for a breathtaking view of the coast.

(5) Take the same route back and return to the fork.

(4) Continue straight ahead, pass a car park and then ignore the road branching off to the right, continuing straight ahead towards Kerjean. You will arrive at the calvary at the entrance to the hamlet.

(6) Turn left, then go straight ahead at the next crossroads. Continue along this road and ignore the various side roads. At the crossroads at altitude 100, go straight ahead towards the south-east to reach a road junction at the exit of Kerouziel.

(7) Continue straight ahead on the smaller road running alongside the small wood and fields. Cross this agricultural area to reach Port Logot and a crossroads between meadows, fields and houses.

(8) Take the small farm track opposite, heading south-east. Cross this small wood and return to the initial fork and the GR®.

(1) Go down the steps towards Le Palus, stroll along the beach and then return to your car park (S/E).

Notes

Two fairly difficult sections to note: - from (S/E) to point (1) and back (1) to (S/E), very steep with very high and uneven steps

- from (4) to Port de Gwin Zégal and back, very steep with lots of steps.

All the charm of the GR® 34.

Worth a visit

The Palus site.

The view of the Plouha cliffs from the various viewpoints.

The pretty little typical port of Gwin Zégal.

A lovely walk, though the first climb after setting off from the charming little village of La Page du Palus is a bit steep.
A lovely coastal path with beautiful sea views in several places.
The short detour to the little port of Gwin Zegal, with its distinctive large wooden posts for mooring boats, is well worth a visit.
