Moulin de Goule Circular Loop

This walk through undulating terrain will take you along streams to the ridgelines, offering sweeping views of the Ségala.
According to legend, the locals did not know where to build the church. In a fit of frustration, the mason threw his hammer into the sky. A dove caught it in mid-air and then dropped it. The answer had thus come from the heavens. The image of the dove has often been used by the local council; it appears on the stained-glass windows holding a branch, as well as on the corners of the bell tower.

Description of the walk

Start from the square in front of Sainte-Colombe church.

(S/E) Take the road leading down towards La Rouqueyrie.

(1) Turn left towards Mas Del Blat. Pass the hamlet on your left, then take the path leading down to your right and follow it for 500m.

(2) Take the path leading down to the right, cross the stream and follow the path back up. At the junction with a wider path, turn right and head back up to the road.

(3) At the road, turn right then take the first road on the left. Continue to a fork in the road (altitude 479m) and carry on to the right for 250m.

(4) At the right-hand bend, take the path on the left and follow it to the Goule mill (the path is not shown on the IGN map). Turn right onto the road, cross the stream, then turn left towards Cantagrel.

(5) Continue along the stony path that climbs. You will reach the hamlet of Arides. Before the last buildings, take the road that climbs to the left. At a bend, on the right as you climb, take the path that leads straight ahead. At the junction, continue straight ahead, then at the next one, turn left towards the hamlet of Lascombelles. Walk through it.

(6) At the next junction, turn left and follow the path downhill (part of which is not shown on the IGN map). Pass a path on the left, then continue along the road to return to the starting point (S/E).

Stunning scenery, beautiful trees, an interesting heritage of mills, a well-signposted route...

We walked the circular "Boucle du Moulin de Goule" on 18 March 2025 in cold, sunny weather.
The route takes in beautiful houses and winds through unspoilt countryside with stunning views.
In this hilly area, the route is accessible to everyone.
Footbridges have been built to cross the leat of the Moulin de Reilhac (the first mill) and the Pissayrol stream.
The local council maintains the paths by using signs to discourage motor vehicles from using them and creating ruts on the steep sections. Other signs indicate that illegal dumping sites have been cleared.
The paths are well cleared, although a tree has fallen between markers 4 and 5 just before reaching the Moulin de Goule. The passage is, however, easily navigable by ducking your head slightly.
The yellow markings are excellent.
This route is called “Balade aux Deux Moulins (Sainte-Colombe)” on the Tourisme Lot website; the description is identical word for word, as are the waypoints. The same person must have copied it onto both sites.
The locals are friendly.
Well worth a visit!
Thierry

This walk is lovely and there’s no risk of getting lost. I don’t understand Thibault’s problem between points 2 and 3; you just need to follow the yellow markings, which take you past the Rilhac mill.

Hello,

This is the second time I’ve done this route in recent years. A lovely walk.
The scenery is wonderful once you come out of the forest after point 5. I’ll post a few photos.
However, on both occasions I had a major problem between points 2 and 3: after numerous attempts, I never managed to find the ‘path that goes down to the right’ and allows you to cross the stream. There are certainly several paths leading to the stream, but no ‘path that goes back up’. Rather, there are fenced-off private fields with no way out. And the GPS, which was too imprecise, was of no help to me.
The only solution I found was to follow the yellow-marked track that descends to the stream, crosses it (nice mill) and climbs back up (still yellow markings). This marked path allows you to reach the hamlet of Fayfol at point 3 without any trouble, then follow the planned route again.

A world away from Covid... thanks to these landscapes and unspoilt nature.
