Description of the walk

Park at the post office car park in Latronquière. During the walk, follow the yellow markings of the Tourist Office route, unless otherwise stated below.

(S/E) Ignore the yellow markings and take the road heading south-east, which slopes gently down alongside the old fairground (now a mini-golf course), then turn right at the cross. When you reach the main road, turn left in front of the petrol station.

(1) Between the petrol station and the garage, take the small path down to the right. Follow it to the right as it climbs between the gardens. You will reach the old castle/commandery wall.

(2) Turn left and follow the boundary wall, turning right once. Leave the wall and head down Rue de la Commanderie. Go round the old restored stone house, first to the left then to the right. Join the road and turn left, then follow the yellow markings to the left.

(3) Immediately afterwards, leave the yellow markings and turn right onto the sunken path leading downhill. Turn right to come out onto Rue du Fau; follow it to the right for about 150 m, then take the path on the left which joins the D653. Continue to the left and pass the agricultural cooperative / Gamm Vert.

(4) Turn left onto the road towards the hamlet of Gorléans (yellow signposting), then immediately afterwards turn right uphill onto the remains of the Cahors-Clermont Roman road. Follow the yellow markings through woods and meadows.

(5) At this point, Blue Crosses indicate that you should turn left downhill: follow the path downwards along the woods to the tarmac road (numerous cairns). Cross it and follow the path almost directly opposite which leads uphill (yellow signposting) to the hamlet of Sireyol.

(6) In front of a barn, turn right (yellow markings) onto a path bordered on both sides by stone walls for 300 m, then turn right again, following the yellow markings.

(7) After passing a Christmas tree plantation on your left as you climb, leave the hamlet of Renac on your right at the top and head down opposite until you cross the stream. Further on, take the road to the left, and leave it 150 m later to follow the path on the left leading to Poutiac Pond.

(8) At the hamlet of Poutiac, take the road on the right and follow it for 1.5 km to the D31.

(9) At the first junction after a slight climb, continue straight ahead, keeping slightly to the right.

(10) Cross the RD31 with care and take the path on the left before the barrier (yellow markings). This path runs alongside a wood and a wet meadow (watch out for wet patches in spring). Continue to the road, turn left and head straight on to reach the village and the starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

Along the route:

Latronquière Commandery: only the ancient walls of this former stronghold, once commanded by the Order of Saint John (Order of Malta), which ruled the region until the Revolution, remain visible. The castle was damaged during the Wars of Religion and finally destroyed during the Revolution.

Nearby:

- Latronquière Church: a contemporary Way of the Cross (paintings by M. Delclaux), paying tribute to the villagers who fell victim to the atrocities committed by the SS Division Das Reich at the end of the Second World War.
- Sénaillac-Latronquière: Lake Tolerme.
- Bessonies: 15th-century castle.
- Labastide du Haut-Mont: the highest point in the department, offering views over the Auvergne mountains.

Thanks to Garz for this lovely walk, which offers plenty of variety.
At the start, we hesitated about whether to take the path to the right of the mini-golf course, leading up to the cross.
You really should avoid doing this walk in wet weather.
On the other hand, during the summer heat, it’s undoubtedly very pleasant as it’s well shaded for most of the route.

A stormy day, a lovely, enjoyable hike, partly shaded; make sure you bring water in case of hot weather.
Not much road; the cairn trail is really lovely.
Apparently the Caseli cooperative no longer exists; it’s now a gardening and landscaping shop.
Thanks, Garz!

This walk offers lovely views of the Ségala region, and the autumn colours are a delight amidst all those chestnut trees. It’s varied: woodland, paths… the line of cairns is a pleasant surprise
At the start (point No. 2) I wasn’t sure if I was following the route correctly, as there are yellow markings, then white/blue ones (and later some very useful wooden signposts), so with a mix of everything I eventually found my way. After that, no problems.
The path was well-cleared; there were a few bits of road, but cars were few and far between.
Another app told me I’d covered 11 km (?!), but I walked at a leisurely pace within the times indicated.
Thank you, Visorando.
