Stang Vraz Circular (Grande Vallée)

Yellow markings are very prominent, mainly in the form of signposts.

(S/E) From the town hall car park, walk along the left-hand side of the building (with its beautiful decorative carved stones), take the main street on the right and leave the village.

(1) At the first Fork in the road, turn right following the sign for Kernaval and Ker-Huella. After passing the access road to Kernaval on your right, you’ll reach the Saint-Nicolas Fountain and its washhouse (1769). It’s well worth a stop. Continue along this small road heading due east, which descends towards a small stream before climbing again. Ignore a path on the left, pass the Ker-Huella estate (with its beautiful chestnut tree) and the Lansaludo farm.

(2) A signpost directs you to turn left onto a wide track closed to motorised vehicles. Continue along this single track downhill, which turns sharply right to enter a wooded area.

(3) At the signpost, leave the main track and turn left onto a small path that winds through an area of ferns before emerging into a woodland dominated by old holly trees. Follow this path as it winds through the woods, then turns right and heads downhill. You’ll reach a slope with wooden steps to cross it; continue along the edge of the woods towards a power line (not shown on the map). You’ll come to a wide track coming from the left, then a road.

(4) Turn left and follow the road uphill to the first junction marked by a sign for Moulin de Kerguerhent, now a crêperie.

(5) Pass the entrance to the old mill on your right and take a path that climbs straight ahead. At the top, there is a view over the Goyen valley and the right bank. Head towards Kergoff Farm, which you’ll pass on your right. Shortly after this, look out for a large carved stone slab on the right – look carefully as it is partly hidden by tree branches. Continue to the junction with the road to Pouldergat.

(1) Retrace your steps along the route you took on the way there to return to the town hall car park (S/E).

Part of the route through the woods does not appear on any map and winds around a great deal. As this section of the route was mapped by hand, it can only be approximate.
The distance is likely to be underestimated; allow for around 4.5 km instead.
Very good signposting.
In the wooded section, between (3) and (4), the vegetation tends to encroach on the path.

A short detour: at (4), there’s the option of a round trip of about 300 metres to the small bridge over the River Goyen. A few metres further down, you’ll reach the leat that supplies water to the pirouette wheel at Kerguerhent Mill, even though the mill is no longer in operation.
