Description of the walk

Access to Saint-Éliph via the D941, 4 km south of La Loupe, car park near the wash house, Rue de l'École.

Yellow markings

(S/E) With your back to the D1035, take the path heading north-east. Follow it to the entrance to the hamlet of Vaufermé. Meet up with the GR®35 coming from La Loupe.

White and red markings + yellow markings

(1) At the crossroads, turn left onto Rue du Vaufermé and cross the hamlet. At the beautiful oak tree, continue along the path opposite and follow it to the Haisonnière farm.

(2) Take the road on the left, then turn right onto a road that becomes a path. Continue until you reach a small road near Petite Butte.

(3) Follow the road opposite southwards, passing in front of the Grande Butte (pond). The road then turns eastwards and reaches a T-junction at Froid Vent. View of the ponds.

(4) Turn right and go down along the property. At the next crossroads, turn left and leave the GR®35.

No markings

Follow the road to the landscape information table.

(5) Continue straight ahead along the woods. At the crossroads, turn left. Continue along this road, the D349, ignoring the roads branching off to the left, until you reach the D941.

Worth a visit

On the way

Saint-Éliph wash house: located at the entrance to the village, it has a large rectangular basin fed by a spring. Its unique feature is its old mechanism, which has been completely restored.

Saint-Éliph Church , remodelled in the 16th century, surprises visitors with the size of its nave. Still surrounded by its cemetery, it contains a monumental 17th-century painted stone altarpiece. This ensemble is one of the most beautiful in the Perche region. Saint Éliph, decapitated and holding his head in his hands, is depicted twice, in a niche to the left of the tabernacle and on the tabernacle itself.
The altarpiece is crowned by a sculpture of the Holy Trinity, a reminder that the former parish comprising Saint-Éliph, Vaupillon and La Loupe was called "La Trinité des Bois" (The Trinity of the Woods). No one knows why, around the 11th century, it took the name of the martyr Saint Eliph.
