Touraille circular starting from Saint-Éliph

This route, starting from the wash house in Saint-Éliph, allows you to discover the two aspects of the countryside around the village. It passes through Auberdière and Grande Cour, then Petite Butte and follows Chemin de César to Touraille through a landscape of meadows and hedgerows typical of the Perche region. It returns to Saint-Eliph along roads and paths on the plain, the first signs of the Beauce region. With many quiet, small tarmac roads, it is recommended as a winter route when the nearby forest paths become difficult.

Worth a visit

On the trail

St-Éliph wash house: located at the entrance to the village, it has a large rectangular basin fed by a spring. Its unique feature is its old mechanism, which has been completely restored.

Saint-Éliph Church, remodelled in the 16th century, surprises visitors with the size of its nave. Still surrounded by its cemetery, it contains a monumental 17th-century painted stone altarpiece. This ensemble is one of the most beautiful in the Perche region. Saint-Éliph, decapitated and holding his head in his hands, is depicted twice, in a niche to the left of the tabernacle and on the tabernacle itself.
The altarpiece is crowned by a sculpture of the Holy Trinity, recalling that the former parish comprising Saint-Éliph, Vaupillon and La Loupe was called "La Trinitédes Bois" (The Trinity of the Woods). No one knows why, around the 11th century, it took the name of the martyr Saint Eliph.

Montécot State Forest: covering more than 200 hectares, it is home to many species of trees and numerous animals, including five protected species of amphibians.
