Circular of the ponds starting from Perruchet

Although many birds can be found here despite global warming, parakeets have not yet colonised the site! Discover these ponds, an integral part of the Perche landscape. Although medium-sized (20 hectares), they constitute a wetland of great importance. Starting from the hamlet of Perruchet between the ponds, the route offers beautiful views of the lakes from the small road overlooking the valley. A road, believed to be Roman, the Chemin de Jules César, approaches the Étang de Perruchet. Leave it to go around it to the south. The route then leads to the Touraille farm and returns via Haut Coudray and the heights of the Teillière Pond, where an information board provides a better understanding of these landscapes between Beauce and Perche.

Description of the walk

Perruchet is 6 km south of La Loupe between Saint-Eliph and Montireau via the D941 and then the D349. Parking is available near the houses along the road.

No signposts

(S/E) From Perruchet, follow the D349 northwards.

(1) Pass between the Perruchet and Théllière ponds. Go up to the triangular crossroads. Landscape information table.

(2) Turn left and arrive near Froid Vent, where the GR®35 and a PR® meet.

White and red + yellow markings.

Continue straight ahead to Le Taillis. The road becomes a path: Chemin de Jules César. It descends and approaches the Perruchet pond.

(3) Continue straight ahead, cross a stream and head south-west. Shortly before the old Brou - La Loupe railway line, you will reach the entrance to a path leading off to the left at an acute angle behind a copse.

(4) Take this path on the left, which enters the Bois des Brosses, stays close to the edge and comes out onto the D349 at the entrance to the road leading to Touraille.

(5) Cross the D349 carefully and continue opposite towards Touraille. Pass by the farm. Small pond - Goat farm, cheese shop. Continue along the road until you reach a right-angle bend.

Yellow markings.

(6) Leave the GR®35 and follow the main road opposite to the D103.

(7) Carefully follow the road to the left. Pass through Haut Coudray and climb up to the crossroads near the D941 (bus shelter).

(8) Turn left onto the small road and pass near La Frénotière. At the crossroads, go straight ahead to find the information board.

(2) Go back down the road on the left to return to Perruchet (S/E).

Worth a visit

Must-see

Along the way

Perruchet and Thellière ponds: (1) In winter , the ponds are home to beautiful colonies of great crested grebes, coots, mallards, tufted ducks and, to a lesser extent, teals and goldeneyes. Great cormorants occupy the area, and great egrets can sometimes be seen among the grey herons.

The route runs along the surrounding meadows, which are regularly visited by flocks of thrushes. Many lapwings spend the winter on the crops. Flocks of finches (European greenfinches, European goldfinches, linnet, chaffinches and bramblings) move across ploughed fields and fallow land, sometimes startled by the passage of a European sparrowhawk on the hunt.

The Haut Coudray site. (7)

The path between Haut and Bas Coudray allows you to approach this site discreetly.
Remarkable natural area, private property.

Nearby

Saint-Éliph wash house: located at the entrance to the village, it has a large rectangular basin fed by a spring. Its distinctive feature is its old mechanism, which has been completely restored.

Saint-Éliph Church: remodelled in the 16th century, it surprises visitors with the size of its nave. Still surrounded by its cemetery, it contains a monumental 17th-century painted stone altarpiece. This ensemble is one of the most beautiful in the Perche region. Saint-Éliph, decapitated and holding his head in his hands, is depicted twice, in a niche to the left of the tabernacle and on the tabernacle itself. The altarpiece is crowned by a sculpture of the Holy Trinity, recalling that the former parish comprising Saint-Éliph, Vaupillon and La Loupe was called "La Trinité des Bois" (The Trinity of the Woods). No one knows why, around the 11th century, it took the name of the martyr Saint-Éliph.

Montécot State Forest: covering more than 200 hectares, it contains numerous areas of trees and is home to many animals, including five protected species of amphibians.
