Sapée Loop

A superb, slightly challenging hike from the Lodge des Robines to the summit of La Sapée (1,701 m). Pass by the magnificent Notre-Dame d'Entraigues church and near the Tartonne salt well. Superb views of the Asse Valley. Dense coniferous forest on the way up and deciduous forest on the way down.
The Visorando app is highly recommended.

Description of the walk

Departure from the Lodge des Robines, 04330 Tartonne. Large car park on site.

(S/E) Join the D19, follow it to the right, away from the village, and take the road on the left to reach the Church of Notre-Dame d'Entraigues.

(1) Pass in front and follow the trail marked by the GRP® (yellow and red markings).

(2) Continue straight ahead on the GRP® at this fork and do not follow the direction of the summit of La Sapée (return route).

(3) Turn right, cross the stream and continue following the GRP® markings.

(4) Near the Col du Défens (altitude 1,230 m), follow the road straight ahead for about 300 m.

(5) Take the small track on the right. This short section is not signposted. Join a track 100 m further on.

(6) Follow it to the right, it winds upwards through the woods.

(7) Leave the track shortly after the second bend to the left and follow a barely visible path to the right through the forest. You will come to the remains of a marked trail that crosses a wooded area. Join a wide track and follow it around a few bends. You will then come to a well-marked trail that climbs towards the summit of La Sapée.

(8) Caution: some sections on slopes may be slippery. At its highest point, the trail joins another path that descends through the forest.

(9)Make a round trip to the summit of La Sapée (elevation 1,701 metres) by turning left onto a magnificent plateau covered with grasses. Return the way you came.

(9) Descend to the left along the marked trail. Further down, you will come to a forest track.

(11) Continue straight ahead on the forest track (ignore the path on the left). Further on, cross the Torrent de la Salaou and return to the intersection of the loop.

(2) Turn left to return to the lodge (S/E) without following the same route as on the way there.
