Circular route around the Étang de Kerné Uhel via the Chaos de Toul Goulic

The start is in the village of Peumerit-Quintin, in the hamlet of Goaz-ar Hand, in the car park at the corner of the bridge.

(S/E) Take this road, and immediately afterwards, look out for a small dirt track leading into the vegetation.

(1) Turn right onto this path, which runs alongside the pond, and stay on it for a considerable distance. After passing a very narrow stretch of water, you’ll emerge into a lovely clearing and join a PR® trail.

(2) Head straight ahead onto this well-marked path, staying as close to the water as possible. Carry on and, much further on, you’ll reach the hydroelectric dam.

(3) Do not cross the footbridge; stay on the left bank of the Blavet. Shortly afterwards, you’ll reach the drinking water treatment plant.

(4) Cross the bridge over the Blavet, then turn left onto a small path that follows the riverbed more or less closely. Walk along the upper reaches of the Chaos de Toul Goulic, as the access path has completely disappeared. Stay on this lovely path, which does not appear on the IGN map. Much further down, you’ll reach a junction of paths.

(5) Take the path veering far to the right. Now follow the Ruisseau Saint-Georges until you reach a fork.

(6) Take the path that branches off to the left and follows the Ruisseau Saint-Georges to a junction of paths.

(7) Ignore the path that crosses the stream and turn right to join the D87.

(8) Cross the road carefully and head down this wide avenue leading to the dam.

(9) Take the path on the left, which then climbs to offer a view overlooking the dam. Continue along the path by the water’s edge until you reach the leisure centre.

(10) Find the narrow path that runs along the riverbank. Follow it, even when it veers away from the bank, to reach the hamlet of Le Rocleu. Take the tarmac road, cross the stretch of water and arrive at a junction at elevation 224.

(11) Turn right, cross the car park and follow the path lined with chestnut trees. Stay on this track and follow the contours of the shoreline, passing all the inlets which are home to many aquatic animals. Cross a few small streams, walk the length of the headland along the water’s edge until you reach the hamlet of Goaz-ar Hand and the road. Cross the road carefully and make your way back to your car park. (S/E)

This walk, which takes place entirely in woodland, presents no difficulties other than its length. It is possible to shorten it at the dam (3) by crossing the footbridge and rejoining the path on the right bank (9). Another option is a little further downstream, towards the drinking water treatment plant (4). Take the road to the right until you reach a junction (8), then turn right
