Circular Étang de Kerné Uhel via Chaos de Toul Goulic

A beautiful circular route around the Kerné Uhel pond along the left bank of the Blavet, then along the river in the Chaos de Toul Goulic. The return trip along a pretty stream will take you back to the hydroelectric dam, then along the right bank, around the Goz-ar Hand peninsula before reaching the bridge and the car park. You will also have the pleasure of seeing many birds of all kinds and lots of remarkable trees.

Description of the walk

The starting point is in the commune of Peumerit-Quintin, in the hamlet of Goaz-ar Hand, in the car park at the corner of the bridge.

(S/E) Take this car park and immediately afterwards, look for a small dirt track leading into the vegetation.

(1) Turn right onto this path, which runs alongside the pond, and continue along it for a long distance. After following a very narrow stretch of water, you will come out into a pretty clearing and join a PR®.

(2) Take the well-marked path opposite, staying as close to the water as possible. Continue on and, further ahead, you will reach the hydroelectric dam.

(3) Do not cross the footbridge; stay on the left bank of the Blavet. Shortly afterwards, you will reach the drinking water plant.

(4) Cross the bridge over the Blavet and then turn left onto a small path that follows the riverbed more or less closely. Walk along the top of the Chaos de Toul Goulic, as the access path has completely disappeared. Stay on this pretty path, which does not appear on the IGN map. Much further down, you will come to a crossroads.

(5) Take the path on the far right. Follow the Ruisseau Saint-Georges stream until you reach a fork.

(6) Take the path on the right, away from the riverbank, which climbs steeply to reach a pasture. Go through the gate and join a road, passing by the house.

(7) Follow this road, which serves a number of houses, until you reach the RD 87.

(8) Cross it carefully and take the large lane that leads to the dam.

(9) Take the path on the left, which climbs up to offer a view overlooking the dam. Continue along the path at the water's edge until you reach the leisure centre.

(10) Find the small path that runs along the riverbank. Follow it, even when it moves away from the riverbank, to reach the hamlet of Rocleu. Take the tarmac path, cross the waterway and arrive at a crossroads at elevation 224.

(11) Turn right, cross the car park and follow the path lined with chestnut trees. Stay on this track and follow the contours of the shore, passing numerous waterways that are home to many aquatic animals. Cross a few streams, walk along the peninsula beside the water and you will arrive at the hamlet of Goaz-ar Hand and the road. Cross it carefully and return to your car park. (S/E)

Notes

This walk, which takes place entirely in the woods, presents no difficulty other than its length. It is possible to shorten it at the dam (3) by crossing the footbridge and taking the path on the right bank (9). Another option, a little further downstream, is to head towards the drinking water plant (4). Take the road on the right and reach a crossroads (8), then turn right.
