Description of the walk

From the village of Glomel, take the D3 towards Rostrenen and park in the Pont ar Len car park overlooking the Nantes-Brest Canal.

(S/E) From the car park, cross the footbridge and take the towpath on the right, along the canal, which is also the Étang de Trébel. Continue along the lake until you reach the Quistinic lock.

(1) Continue straight ahead on the towpath, which becomes the GR®37 trail. Pass through a series of locks on this trail until you reach the Pont Yannig (or Yannick) lock.

(2) Cross the lock footbridge and leave the GR®37 temporarily to reach the other side of the canal and enter the forest. Continue along the canal until you reach the bank opposite the Quistinic lock. Back at this lock, ignore the footbridge and return to the GR®37. Take the path that runs along the southern bank of the Étang de Trébel and the northern bank of the Étang de Mezouët, and continue westwards. You will come to a small country road.

(3) Turn right onto it, heading north towards the hamlet of Kergoff. Turn onto the first road on the left, before the hamlet of Kergoff. Cross the hamlet of Lopéraré, still on the GR®37. Continue towards the hamlet of Ker Sioul.

(4) Just before the hamlet, turn left, heading south, still on the GR®37, and enter a wooded area. The road becomes a path again until you reach Moulin de Corong.

(5) Join a new road and turn right towards the Étang de Coronc.

(6) Arrive at the north bank of the lake and leave the GR®37, heading straight south. Stay on the path along the lake until you reach the hamlet of Saint-Conogan and its chapel.

(7) Take the Saint-Conogan bridge on the right and, at the exit, turn right again to follow the other bank of the Coron pond, along the edge of the woods, to the next bridge.

(8) Cross the bridge, rejoin the GR®37, follow it to the left and cross the hamlet of Kerrien. Continue north on the GR®37 to reach the centre of Glomel, at the church.

(9) First turn right then left to cross Grande Rue (D3) and take Rue de la Fontaine heading north on the GR®37. Just after the hamlet of Minez Déro, continue straight on the GR®37, which becomes a footpath again and joins the Nantes-Brest canal at Grande Tranchée.

(10) Leave the GR®37 and turn right onto a path overlooking the canal in the forest. Continue along this path to reach the car park (S/E).

We didn’t follow the route exactly as we wanted to shorten it a bit, so we didn’t go all the way round Corong Pond. The short loop at the start – a return trip between the two locks – might seem a bit odd, but the path through the woods to the lock is actually beautiful, and we don’t regret doing it.
