When leaving the La Ciotat toll booth coming from Marseille, turn left at the first roundabout onto Avenue du Serpolet, then continue straight on Avenue des Tamaris, passing under the motorway. Go straight through the next roundabout until you reach a bend and immediately turn left onto an uphill road marked as a dead end. A few dozen metres further on, turn right onto Chemin du Petit Roumagoua, which climbs steeply, and park 400 metres higher up near a barrier that marks the start of the hike.
(S/E) Take and follow this DFCI track.
(1) Before reaching Petit Roumagoua, turn left to begin the ascent of the valley of the same name.
(2) At a bend and a cistern, continue to the right on a well-marked path (on OSM only). This path will take you to Pas d'Ouillier after following the Bédoule road for a few hundred metres.
(3) Turn right onto theGR® 98. The concrete slope is steep at first. Follow this beautiful trail for about 2 km to the Cabanon des Gardes while enjoying the beautiful views of Cassis and La Ciotat.
(4) Just outside the Cabanon des Gardes turning area, look for a cairn-like structure on the right. Turn right and descend straight down the scree, following several cairns that will guide you on the right path. You will arrive between two large rocks, one of which is marked with a red dot.
(5) About sixty metres further on, on the left, marked by two cairns and a blue cloth on a bush, is the Gouffre Durand. Continue down the path, which curves to the right, and note an old ice house on the left. You will reach the Vallon de Gendame.
(6) Take the wide path opposite, which climbs up to join a DFCI track. Cross this track and take the path opposite, which climbs up to a plateau offering beautiful views of La Ciotat or Cap Sicié on one side and the cliffs of the valley on the other. Join the track you crossed earlier.
(7) Continue to the right and continue downhill. Shortly afterwards, notice on your left, towards the south-east, a beautiful view of the plateau of an ancient oppidum. Further on, leave a track on the left and keep to the right.
(8) Keep right again at the three-way junction, join the Chemin du Petit Roumagoua and return to the car park where you started (S/E).
