Le Télégraphe de Ceyreste, le Cabanon des Gendarmes starting from Ceyreste

This hike is suitable for groups or families and is of moderate difficulty, but requires a minimum level of fitness given the cumulative elevation gain. It is mostly on wide, easy paths with a few trails to add variety to the route, offering beautiful views of La Ciotat, Pic de Bertagne and Dents de Roque Fourcade.
After about two hours of walking, you arrive at the Cabanon des Gendarmes, a very friendly place where you can have a barbecue. Tables and benches are provided, with beautiful views of La Ciotat.
Note: it is possible to make a circular pattern; see the chapter on practical information for details.

Description of the walk

Access is by car, with several parking options available:
- 2 spaces at the start of Chemin de Croix,
- 5 to 6 spaces on the hard shoulder between (S/E) and (2),
- around ten spaces at (1),
The description of the hike starts at thefirst car park.

(S/E) Go up to the left along the partly tarmac and stony road to see the Chapel of Sainte-Croix.

(1) Turn back to the car park.

(S/E) Take the Chemin de Croix on the left to reach the 10-space car park. Here you will find the Chemin du Charre.

(2) Take it on the left, going uphill until you reach a small path. Take it on the left to reach an antenna and a cistern. Go around them on the right and then take the Chemin de Charre on the left. Follow the red and white GR® markings. You will reach a crossroads serving a few houses.

(3) Stay on the Chemin de Charre, known here as GC113. Pass water tank no. 30; the path is concrete. Continue uphill, then follow the slightly stony dirt track that follows on from it. You will reach a crossroads with a track leading off to the right and a marker marked GC113. Continue straight ahead on the GR® and you will soon come to a Y-junction.

(4) Take the slightly narrower path on the left, which is still marked in white, red and yellow. You will reach the summit of Le Télégraphe.

(5) Go around it and then turn right at a 90° angle onto the small downhill path. Join the Chemin Charre and the GC113 markers on the left and GC116 on the right.

(6) Take the GC116 and you will soon reach the Cabanon des Gendarmes. Here you have two options:
- retrace your steps to return to the car park (S/E).
- continue downhill on this track, then turn right onto a narrow path that leads into the forest. At the bottom of the descent, you will reach a T-junction.

(7) Take a small path on the right that climbs slightly, and you will soon come to another path. Turn left, then left again at the next junction. Climb for a few metres, then descend, heading south, continuing between a few dry stone walls until you come to a very wide track.

(8) Take this track to the left, atthe second hairpin bend, then leave it and continue to the right. Quickly leave the woods and continue along this small track until you reach the hamlet of Le Verrier.

(9) Turn right and after a few metres you will reach a low point.

(10) Take the same route back to return to the car park you chose at the start (S/E).

Notes

(6) After the Cabanon des Gendarmes, you can take the return route if you are running out of time. In this case, the elevation gain is 437 metres and the distance is approximately 9.3 km, which reduces the hike to 4 hours excluding meal breaks, making it accessible to a wider audience.
(10) At this point, it is possible to make a circular route by returning to the crossroads between (2) and ((3) ), but although I did this with the help of a compass, it is off-trail and I do not recommend it. I therefore deleted it and we retraced our steps to (S/E).
