Message from a hiker ==> Since 17/04/23, the path is closed beyond (6) (the path on the left) and (7): a quarry has just been opened by VICAT, so there are lorries, diggers, etc. There is therefore a barrier with ‘No Entry’ signs!
Park in the car park by the oven and washhouse in the hamlet of Faverges.
(Start/Finish) Walk up the street heading south-east. At the end of Rue de Penelon, you’ll reach a T-junction with two tarmac roads; turn left and walk for about a hundred metres alongside the houses. At the last house, near the waste collection point, you’ll reach the junction where the road meets the track.
(1) Turn left and follow the lovely, carriageable track under the canopy of trees, continuing straight on towards Chogne. Pass close to the D14a, cross a road and reach another junction near a tiny pond.
(2) Set off straight ahead onto the path marked with a Yellow Rectangle, leaving the pond on your right. At the Y-junction about 200 metres on, turn right onto the tarmac road. Pass houses below on your right whilst staying on the road, and head about 200 metres into a woodland.
(3) As you emerge from the woodland, less than 100 metres on, turn left onto the ViaRhona (shared cycle path). At the next junction between the ViaRhona and a path joining from the left, stay on the ViaRhona and turn right until you reach the junction with a local road.
(4) Turn left to stay on the ViaRhona, which is now shared with motor vehicles (very little traffic). You’ll reach another junction.
(5) Continue to the right – this is still the ViaRhona – and stay on the tarmac road. At the T-junction between two tarmac roads, turn right, staying on the ViaRhona throughout, and you’ll reach an industrial site (with an overhead crane from the nearby quarry); pass under the overhead crane.
(6) After the overhead crane, take the path straight ahead that climbs uphill, leaving the quarry on your left, until you reach the end of the fence. At the junction at the corner of the fence, turn 90° to the left (leaving the wire fence on your left) and continue uphill. Stay on the path to reach the Étang de Barral.
(7) Here, there is an option: you can take a path on the left to go to the Étang de la Fulye, then retrace your steps. Return to the path on the left; you will soon reach the junction with the tarmac road; turn left here to enter Mépieu.
(8) Turn left onto the D16, carry on straight ahead, follow the Grand Étang, and arrive beneath the high-voltage power line.
(9) Follow the nature trail to the junction with the Route de Faverges, near a fountain and a bread oven.
(10) Turn right and, after about 300 metres, you’ll reach the starting point (S/E).

Thank you for sharing! I have fond memories of my stay in the Land of Colours 😊!
