A car park has recently been built just before the cemetery.
(S/E). Take the small tarmac road that climbs up opposite the car park.
(1) After 210 m, turn right towards "Bois de Morgue" (sign). Follow the path to the D94 road.
(2) Cross the road and follow the road opposite for 135 m. Return to the D94 road and follow it to the right for less than 200 m.
(3) Leave the road and take the path on the right (blue sign).
At the first fork, the blue sign tells you to turn right.
(4) You will come to a wide path. Turn right, follow the blue signs shortly after and follow them towards "Chanaux". Ignore the adjacent paths.
(5) Turn right onto a wide paved path towards "Plateau des Charmilles".
(6) Follow this wide path. When you reach a crossroads where four paths meet, take the left-hand path towards "Lompnas" (still following the blue signs). The path is then overgrown for a few hundred metres but remains passable.
(7) If you want to see the cave, at the point where there are large white stones across the path and another to the right of the path, turn left into the woods (the path is clearly visible in the woods, but a GPS or Visorando with the route marked is recommended). A very narrow path winds through the woods, which you follow until you reach the cave (see the practical information note)..
Be careful when approaching the cave, as the path becomes very narrow and slippery (not recommended for children).
(8) Beautiful cave (prehistoric dwelling) where a narrow passageway leads into the rock, where the temperature is freezing (torches essential).
A few bats may fly out when you arrive. At the bottom of the descent into the cave, you can climb the smooth, slippery rock in front of you, followed by a narrow, low passage in the rock to reach a beautiful, fairly large cave with beautiful, very shiny concretions. This second part, lower and narrower, is more beautiful than the first part of the descent.
Return to the main path via the same route
(7) Continue your hike by turning left.
(9) Take the path on the left (signposted "attention falaises") which descends through the woods to the top of a cliff. Caution: do not get too close to the edge.
Admire the wide view of the villages of Marchand and Cerin on your left. Far below and on the horizon, you can see the snow-capped Alps. On your right, enjoy a wide view of the Bugey and Lyon plains.
(10) Retrace your steps along the same path until you reach the sign.
(9) Turn left (signposted "Lompnas"),
The very narrow, steep and stony path descends for about 700 metres.
At the end of the descent, you will come to a wide path which you take to the right.
At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead.
At the next crossroads, take the path on the left that descends back to the village of Lompnas, your starting point.
(11) When you reach the entrance to the village, turn right to reach the car park (A/D).
