Park in the car park at the Salle des Fêtes in Saint-Just-d'Avray.
(S/E) With your back to the church, head towards the D54 then turn right onto the steep little path until you reach the Route de la Vallée (D98).
(1) Turn left to follow this road, negotiate the right-hand bend: caution, dangerous stretch. At the end of the bend, turn left then right. Continue to the three-way junction at the Chapelle Saint-Maurice.
(2) Turn right, follow the pond on your left and continue along Chemin des Toisons.
(3) Before reaching the hamlet, turn right onto a steeply ascending dirt track. Return to the tarmac and continue straight on to join the departmental road. Turn right and follow it carefully for a few dozen metres.
(4) After this steep climb, take a few minutes to admire the spectacular view from the Croix du Combagelon. You are now at an altitude of 603 m. Turn left just after the cross and follow the wide path towards Le Penin. Leave the hamlet on your left and continue straight on until you reach the four-way junction.
(5) You are now standing in front of the standing stone! Take a moment to touch it, as it is said to bring good luck. You are currently at an altitude of 642 m. Take the path on the left and continue straight on.
(6) Turn left, passing the owl – proof that you’re on the right track. Continue to a multi-way junction with a picnic table.
(7) Head left, ignore the path branching off to the left a few metres further on, then turn right to follow the path uphill through the woods. Join the Col de la Croix des Fourches on the D98.
(8) Turn left and walk alongside the road for about a hundred metres: be careful, this is a dangerous stretch. Turn left, then immediately right to follow a path that runs more or less parallel to the D98 and leads to Avray.
(9) Continue along the road to the right, leaving the hamlet on your right, and go straight on along the Chemin de Bellevue.
(10) Pass the three crosses and continue along Chemin de Bellevue to reach the crossroads. Turn left then right to reach the car park (S/E).
