Parking near Alexandre Chatrian's birthplace in the centre of the hamlet.
(S/E) With your back to the writer's birthplace, take the passage between the houses and cross the stream. The Anneau Rouge du Calice symbol is marked on a concrete electricity pole, which is the starting point for the hike.
Red Ring markings
(1) Follow the gently sloping forest path. Look for the Yellow Horse and Blue Ring markings and continue to the Calice forest road.
(2) Cross the road and immediately take the steep path on the left that leads to the beautiful Calice Rock with its distinctive shape.
(3) Continue left on the forest path that leads to Grand Rommelstein. The first part of the route is lined with large rocks, the first of which is spectacular. The second part is flatter and leads to the Grand Rommelstein viewpoint, which offers beautiful views.
(4) Descend to the foot of the enormous rock and continue to Place du Bon Dieu.
Note: the path between the Calice and Grand Rommelstein rocks is closed from 1 February to 31 August to protect the peregrine falcon. However, the Calice rock remains accessible: to continue, follow the yellow signposted path to reach Place du Bon Dieu.
Green Ring Markings
(5) Continue straight ahead on the slightly sloping stony forest road: forest sign indicating "route forestière du Bon Dieu". In the second part, the forest road becomes a narrow path that winds along a ridge between tall ferns and a few rocks of the Eichelkopf: viewpoint on the right. Finish by descending to reach the Parc aux Bœufs, a beautiful spot for a picnic with a shelter.
(6) Descend on the left via the stony forest road that leads to the Col du Brechpunkt (picnic possible).
Yellow ring markings
(7) Take the path on the left that leads to a crossroads and the Croix de Haspach, located on the right.
(8) Turn back towards the Croix de Haspach forest road and wait briefly at the junction of the Red Triangle and Red Ring trails.
(9) There are two options.
Option 1: take the Triangle Rouge forest path to the Col du Bloecherplatz.
Option 2: Red Ring trail
Turn right uphill: there are a few views of the large rocks of Peugstein and, further on, a view of Rocher de Dabo. The trail descends and runs alongside the tarmac Hirschthal forest road and, after a large bend, joins the stony Bloescherplatz forest road.
(10) Continue left on this Bloescherplatz forest road to the pass of the same name: some interesting views on the right, forest and rocks.
Yellow ring markings
(11) Take the forest path downhill to the left, then turn right at the intersection onto the path that continues downhill to the forest road below.
(12) Continue along this road, turning right, passing the bend and continuing for 200 m.
(13) Turn right onto an unmarked dirt path to get closer to the rocky outcrop and see several of these enormous pink sandstone boulders. Follow this path , which joins the higher path on the right, also marked with a yellow ring.
(14) Descend to the left along the forest path overlooking the hamlet of Grand Soldat. At the crossroads by the first houses, turn right and return to the car park (S/E).
