Circular route around La Sauvetat-de-Savères

Parking is available on the Allées du Foirail.

(S/E) Enter the village centre via Rue de l’Abreuvoir, heading towards the church. Walk past the church, go past the town hall, then turn left onto the Grand’Rue to leave the village centre.
Continue along the Route du Pont de la Peyre, then, after the bridge over the Petite Séoune, at the three-way junction, keep left to climb the Côte de la Moulère (Route de Saint-Martin-de-Beauville), which passes the fire station. Continue uphill to the ‘Stop’ sign at the junction with the D201.

(1) Turn right and continue for 800 m until you reach the D110.

(2) Cross it carefully, head left for 30 m, then take the small road on the right towards the hamlet of Le Bosq. Pass this house on your left and continue along the path leading down towards the Moulin de Grand Jouan. After passing the house, continue along the road to Gaffardis.

(3) Turn right onto the D215, Route d’Agen.

(4) Cross it carefully, then head up towards Saint-Damien via the Route de Saint-Damien (a long climb). Pass the church and continue for a further 1.5 km, staying on the same road. You’ll reach a junction at a hairpin bend.

(5) Turn right, round the hairpin bend, onto the road leading towards La Sauvetat-de-Savères. Continue for 500 m to reach the junction with the Route de la Croix d’Aulié

(6) Turn left onto this road towards Saint-Robert and follow it for 750 m, until you reach the hamlet of Balen.

(7) Between the houses in Balen and those in Gaubertou, head down to the right and then immediately left onto the grassy path leading down to two lakes below. Walk over the first lake, then head down below the embankment of the second lake and continue along the path to the left of the pumping station. Follow the path alongside a hedge. At the end of the path, after the hamlet of Rivière, continue along the small tarmac road, Chemin de Rivière Basse. You will reach the D110.

(8) Cross it carefully, then turn left. Immediately afterwards, turn right onto a dirt track which joins the tarmac Chemin de la Canterane, leading back to the Allées du Foirail car park (S/E).

This route runs largely along quiet country lanes and can be tackled even in wet weather.

Near the starting car park, take a look at the wash house and the old workshop where oxen and working cows were shod.
