Description of the walk

This walk follows part of the route of the green-marked trail. 90 per cent of this walk is on roads.
Park at the start of the path near Voluais, next to the bridge over the Bouzanteuil, taking care to leave the way clear.

(S/E) Take the small road that follows the hillside. Pass through the hamlet of Voluais. You’ll come to the first junction.

(1) Turn left, cross the Bouzanteuil towards Les Romarins. Take the road on the right towards Le Saulier. Pass through the hamlet and head uphill towards the château; walk alongside it and continue to the junction with the D1a (Route de l’Épinat).

(2) Turn left onto this road and follow it alongside the quarry. Ignore a road on the left

(3) At the three-way junction, turn into the first road on the right towards Neuville. Walk through the hamlet, admiring the old houses.

(4) Turn into thefourth street on the left, opposite the well, towards a more recent neighbourhood. At the first junction, carry straight on. At the following junctions, stay on the left-hand road. The road turns into a track. At the crossroads, take the track on the right towards Le Cluzeau and Rives Ardente.

(5) Take the first track on the left, just by the entrance to Le Cluzeau Hospital. At the next junction, take the track on the right and head downhill to the entrance to Pont Chrétien.

(6) Take the first street on the left. At the first bend, leave the road and take the path directly opposite you. At the next junction, take the path on the left towards the large building (La Grande Chaume).

(7) Cross the road and take the path opposite. Cross the D1a and follow the path down towards the Bouzanteuil stream.

(8) Before reaching the road, take the grassy path on your left. It follows the Bouzanteuil. As you come out of the woods, take the path on the right, cross the stream and turn left to continue along it and return to the starting car park (S/E).

In fact, these days it’s usually the yellow markings you need to follow, as the green ones no longer exist.

We decided to base our walk on this route, starting, however, from Pont Chrétien (to make it easier to park, stock up on supplies and find water), and to walk a figure-of-eight by combining several routes, including the Chasseneuil route and the “Le Pont de Bois to Pont-Chrétien-Chabenet” route.
After a few hundred metres, the path to Chasseneuil was signposted… we mainly followed the markings, except near the covered bridge as the signposting was confusing there.
A total of 26 km for the day, with most of it covered in the morning due to the heatwave.
The Bouzanteuil and Bouzanne valleys offer interesting historic routes, which are also shaded in the event of a heatwave.
