Park in the hamlet of Bessolle.
(S/E) Start by taking the road heading generally west.
At the three-way junction, take the track on the left. Follow it to the end, where you’ll come to another junction with two paths.
(1) Take the one on the left. Walk along the hillside, crossing the two streams. Begin an easy descent to reach the village of Verneuge.
(2) Turn right onto the tarmac road, taking care of the farm dogs, which are noisy but not vicious.
On leaving the village, take the path on the left. Walk through the forest to reach Jonas.
(3) Head down into the village and pass the Jonas caves, a troglodyte site.
Continue along the road, cross a road on the right, and ignore it to reach a hairpin bend further on.
(4) Turn right at the hairpin bend, go downhill and reach Le Cheix. Continue straight on through the village and cross the bridge over the Couze-Pavin river.
(5) Cross it and turn immediately right to follow the river and join the D621
(6) Turn right onto it, stay on the road and enter Cotteuge. In the centre of the village, at the bus stop, turn right. Look out for the IGN sign. Continue to a new junction.
(7) First turn left then right to leave the road and take the path that winds along the river.
Near Lins, continue to the right. At Renlaigue, reach the bridge over the river at the junction withthe GRP® Autour d'Issoire.
(8) Leave thisGRP® and head right towards Pradelle, following the Ruisseau des Rives. Just before Pradelle, you’ll come to a path junction.
(9) Take the path on the right and follow this winding track uphill through the forest to reach the Bessole car park (S/E).
A lovely walk, done on Sunday 17 March; the winding path leading up to Bessole on the way back is challenging but beautiful
