Description of the walk

From Besse via the D978, head towards Saint-Pierre-de-Condamine and follow the access road to the village of Lomprat. Parking in the village centre.

(S/E) Leave the car park and follow the path eastwards. Pass a wash house on your right, cross the Couze Pavin river and you will come to a crossroads (with a pretty cross). This is the start of the circular route.

(1) Turn left and you will soon reach the pagan calvary (information panel). Continue straight ahead, heading north then north-east, on the path that follows a large pipe leading to the small power station, which you will pass on your left. After a wide right-hand bend, the path joins a road at a hairpin bend.

(2) Leave the direction of the hamlet of Le Cheix, which you can see opposite, and follow the road to the right towards the site of Jonas (called the caves or fortress of Jonas). Pass below the site, which is open to visitors in season.

(3) Then cross the hamlet of Jonas and, just as you leave it, where the road bends to the right, follow the path that goes straight ahead. The path joins the hamlet of Verneuge. Cross it and you will come to a junction with a small road.

(4) Follow the road to the right, which quickly turns into a path. You will arrive at Col de la Feuille (altitude 880 metres). Take the road to the right for a few metres.

(5) Immediately turn right again onto the path that climbs to Pic de Saint-Pierre (altitude 996). Chapel, old cemetery, panoramic view. Site of a work from the Horizon Sancy festival.

(6) Descend via the same route you took to climb up.

(5) Cross the road and take the path opposite. Descend to the Lomprat cemetery and you will reach a junction with a path. Follow this path to the right to return to the junction of the circular route.

(1) Take the road on the left to return to the car park (S/E).
