Circular route to the east of Naussannes

This circular loop starting from Naussannes presents virtually no difficulty, apart from a few slightly steep metres. It offers the chance to explore the countryside around this small village, with lovely shaded sections in a well-preserved environment and vegetation typical of the Périgord’s limestone soils. There are some lovely views of the bastide of Beaumont-du-Périgord. Well worth exploring, for example, on a lovely summer’s afternoon.

Description of the walk

The start and finish of this walk are on the small square opposite Naussannes Town Hall, by the First World War memorial. Shaded parking is available in the afternoon.

(S/E) Walk a few steps towards the church and turn left onto the yellow-marked path which runs between the town hall and a traditional Périgord house, then continues towards the D25.

(1) Turn right onto the path below the road. Cross the D25 carefully the first time and carry on straight ahead. You’ll pass close to the Moulin de la Porte; just before it, there’s a very pretty retention basin, but do not go near it as the bank is dangerous. Carry on following the yellow markings until you rejoin the D25. Follow it to the right for about ten metres, then take the path on the right – marked in yellow – which runs above the road and then moves away from it, climbing steeply for about twenty metres before joining the path leading to the hamlet of Capy.

(2) Turn left to rejoin the D25. Follow this road to the right for about 200 m, then, at the electricity substation, turn right onto the road that leads down to the valley floor and then climbs back up.

(3) At this junction, turn right towards Comte and Loudat. Just after Loudat, the path veers slightly to the left of the track to follow the edge of the plot; the path is very clearly marked – yellow signposting. When the path joins the tarmac road, turn right and continue to the next junction.

(4) At this point, the yellow markings branch off to the left. There are two options:
- you can join the main road and complete a longer circular route by crossing the plateau: please note, there is no shade on this section.
- Alternatively (route choice), carry on straight ahead towards the hamlet of Les Patoux, which will take you to the village of Naussannes a little more quickly and along a slightly less busy road.

(5) At the junction, keep right towards the village.

(6) Turn right to head up towards Naussanes and pass in front of the church, where there is a lovely spot for a picnic. Then head back up towards the D19, which you follow to the right towards the town hall and the car park (S/E).

Hello, there are far too many sections on roads, some of which are far too dangerous to take a group of around forty walkers. What a shame!

Thank you for this very pleasant, peaceful walk, which offered plenty of shade on a hot day amidst the beautiful Périgord countryside.

I was rather disappointed with this walk; the scenery was really unattractive. What a shame.
