From Saint-Maurice-de-Rotherens, Novalaise or Yenne, head towards Loisieux and join the hamlet of L'Abully (or Labully) on the CD40. From the crossroads in this hamlet, take the narrow road that climbs towards the forest and stop in front of a water reservoir.
(S/E) Walk back down the road for about 30 metres and take a good path on the left, which heads north on level ground. At a place called La Grange des Rochettes, turn right to descend and join another path that heads north on level ground.
After 200 metres, turn left to begin the climb up this path which leads, along the edge of the woods, to the Chapelle Saint-Martin.
(1) Take the uphill path that goes around a field and climbs to a limestone ridge, turn left at a pass to descend the western slope. This descent continues west to a wooded plateau where it joins theGR® 65, the Way of St James, which arrives from the right. Take this path to the left, which is initially level, then after a short climb, you will reach a junction with the path coming from Grange de la Combe.
(2) Continue straight ahead on more or less level ground. After a good hundred metres, in a passage where the rocky outcrops upstream and downstream have come closer together, two paths branch off opposite each other:
- the one on the right descends the slope and turns left to reach the Recorba Cave at the foot of the cliff, a resurgence that is usually fed by water,
- the one on the left climbs a few metres to reach the entrance to the Glaise Cave, inhabited by a few bats, where it is possible to easily descend into a large chamber at the bottom of which daylight shines through a skylight.
Continue along the level path to the next crossroads.
(3) There, make a short detour to the right to reach the Belvédère de Recorba, protected by balustrades, where you can enjoy a vertical view of the Rhône valley.
Back on the trail, observe the imposing ruins opposite, which are probably those of an old leprosarium. From there, the trail (facing south) begins to climb more steeply, even curving to the left to cross a threshold before descending to the Croisement de la Pierre Chapeautée.
(4) Leave theGR® 65, which leads to Saint-Maurice, and turn left until you reach another crossroads 200 metres further on
(5) Climb to the right to the summit of Mont Tournier.
(6) Return to the previous crossroads via the same path.
(5) Turn right to begin the descent, following a marked path heading south-east (towards Yenne). 100 metres before reaching the Col du Mont Tournier road, turn left onto a path that climbs back up into the forest. It soon turns right to continue the descent, following the curves of the terrain in an area where limestone outcrops appear among the box trees.
Follow the marked trail as it winds through the forest, passing paths coming in from the left and right. As you approach the edge of the forest, turn right one last time to reach the water reservoir at the start (S/E).
