Black Combe from Whicham

Black Combe situated in the south-west corner of the Lake District National Park dives into the Irish Sea.
This walk is dog friendly. Great view on the Irish Sea.

Description of the walk

Start: St Mary’s Church, Whicham, Millom (LA18 5LS) Grid ref. SD 135 826

(S/E) Exit the car park by the path (opposite to the entrance of the car park). At the level of the road, take left (West) in the direction of Kirkbank. Continue on this road passing houses and farm until seeing a path on the right.

(1) Take the path going up. After 500m continue straight North on the path (ignoring paths on your left hand side). Continue following this main path until reaching the summit of Black Combe.

(2) Once at Black Combe take the path going left after a couple of meters. Continue on this main path going down until reaching an intersection of paths after 2.9 Km.

(3) Take left to continue going down South-West. There will be a dry stone wall on your right-hand side. Continue on this path always going down until reaching Whitebeck Mill.

(4) Cross the settlement of houses and continue straight on the footpath in the direction of Midtown farm. Pass the farm and Townend Hall and continue until reaching the A595 road

(5) At the road take left (South-East) to walk on the grass verge for around 600 m before seeing a footpath on the left.

(6) Take left on the footpath then right in the direction of Throslerake Crag. Continue on this path until reaching the initial path at Moor Gill level. Then take right (South) to go down to the car park (S/E)
