The start is in Sail-sous-Couzan; park on Rue des Veloutiers after the bridge over the Lignon.
(S/E) From the car park, continue to the end of Rue des Veloutiers where two paths branch off.
(1) Ignore the path on the right (the return route) and take the Chemin de Couzan straight ahead. After a sharp left-hand bend, continue uphill to the road at the entrance to Montaillard.
(2) Turn right towards Chorigneux. Continue along the small Route de Couzan until you reach the first path on the right.
(3) Leave the road via this path and rejoin it as you emerge from the forest. After about 100 m, note the cross to the right of the road. Continue to the top of the climb at the hamlet of Chorigneux and head for the next crossroads.
(4) Turn right, then right again onto a path leading down into the woods. Pass a path on the right, then, after the wide left-hand bend, at the junction, ignore the paths branching off to the right or left, and continue straight on southwards until you reach a hairpin bend to the right.
(5) Continue along the path, which, on a gentler slope, approaches the banks of the Lignon and then reaches the Baume dam.
(6) Stay along the right bank on the Chemin de la Grotte des Fées. About a hundred metres past the last house in the hamlet of La Baume, you’ll come to the Grotte des Fées.
(7) Continue along a small road and return to the junction of the circular route.
(1) Turn left, heading in the opposite direction to the outward journey, and return to Rue des Veloutiers and the car park (S/E).
